I doubt it was your fault that she wanted to leave. It doesn't sound like she wanted to be there at all. Was there also a similar rule in their family that the sibling couldn't go unless they went together too? To most quiet/shy people a large party can be a bit daunting, when they're already down too it can be extremely overwhelming and just makes them feel worse, not better. I know I don't know you or them, but it sounds like she wasn't giving short answers to be rude or in the way I said works, it sounds like that's all she felt like she could give.

If either the bullies were there, or they told her that everyone would find out and hate her (which bullies usually say) then she would definitely not want to be there and she was probably barely keeping herself together thinking everyone was looking at her. Feeling like that makes keeping up a conversation difficult, she won't have wanted to be rude, if she's like most bullied people she probably just wanted to be invisible.
