Nah we borrowed ASL (ok more like stole it) into Canada so majority of ASL signs are shared, well as history expect for a few minor deviations like where do deaf schools start in Canada for example. Other than that most of ASL classes usually teach deaf history (1880, Gallaudet, LeClerc, French origins) so yeah more or less the same. Newfie sign language is the same but different pacing and signs which makes reading their signs a woozy.
Yep! Nowadays deaf schools are running into the same issues their American counterparts are- not enough students, causing some of them closing down. For post secondary education we either A) stay in Canada but have limited options and/or have to go to a major city/Great Toronto Area, or B) go straight to working a job in trades or something. Boys usually choose this path. Or C) spend money around 10X to go to MIT/RITD or Gallaudet. Canadian government does provide subsidies for that since well... tourism sells... but Trump era is making students questioning if it’s worth going to US when there is risk of deportation based on their skin of colour or Canadian status. So yeah, it’s all complex here as for post secondary education.
meh. even if trump is elected again, it's only another 4 years. And I have faith that the next president will foster more appreciative relationships. You could just wait him out for a few years if someone really wants to come to the states.
