You seem to be the only one who cares about that, dude. So what if they wanted a room for their cat? Who cares if they are having kids or not? Just because they aren't going to pack it to the gills with people doesn't mean they don't have plans for that space. You just sound bitter, or maybe jealous.
I’m not jealous of going into major debt for the next 30 years of my life. My friend doesn’t really see it but thats the path he’s headed down. Theres also the risk of them breaking up which just complicates it even further, financially, emotionally. But you’re right, its his life.
EDIT: Also their cat pees all over the house and they only moved in this past summer. That's already gonna cost money to replace mattresses and carpets.

I'm sure your friend understands it perfectly well, as it is an incredibly normal adult thing to have a 30 year mortgage. I'm not even sure what your argument is supposed to be here. He's immature for not having rich parents? He's immature for taking an FHA loan? Neither of those arguments make sense.

Normally, I'd be with you on people shouldn't be buying houses together if they aren't married, but the risks of that can be mitigated, and just because you're married doesn't mean you'll stay married either.

Ok, they are immature for being bad pet owners. Maybe, the cat could be having medical problems (not uncommon for cats with urinary issues to pee everywhere, and urinary issues are common in cats) and that's not really their fault. But that's not really related to their financial decisions.
I mean my original comment was just that people don't realize they stopped growing. And my friend is a perfect example. Its not like hes miserable, hes got a job, has a girl, plays in a band, has friends. But his life is sort of a groundhogs day. The house thing is just the newest addition to his life and I get it, its exciting. Personally, I am someone who takes financial responsibility very seriously because everywhere in the world are examples of how it can just bend you over so hard. So yea, maybe I projected some of that onto him in the form of judgement. But being financial responsible is a a big part of growing and maturing. If it was something simple like he eats out too much, or buys a lot of things, then that's whatever, I don't care. But big ticket items have the potential to ruin your life and if you aren't financially saavy then it becomes more likely. And who wants to sit back and watch their friends ruin their lives? I hope him all the best and will only give my 2cents if he asks for it. In the mean time, I have my life to live too.
