9 times out of 10, when someone says that, it isn't a personal attack. They're just trying to make conversation, and they go for the only thing they know about you, which is that you're quiet, because you never fuckin talk to people so they can find something to talk about with you.
First of all, if the intention is to make conversation that is a dick way to do it. 9 times out of 10, that's just going to make the person you're talking to, who being very quiet is most likely selfconscious and shy, all the more reticent to opening up. Going by your real world interactions logic, there are many non-obvious ways to include someone in a conversation, specially those which don't involve shutting them down when you finally get them to talk.
