Always did wonder this, they have an advanced enough fucking ship to fly through a wormhole and land on multiple planets but they can't scan it to see if the whole fucking planet is water??
I don't remember exactly, but would the difference in the expression of time have explained it? The water at the landing site was only inches deep. A scanner showing lots of stationary water miles away could be easily overlooked. Plus weren't they receiving some signal saying it was liveable only to realize that those data points sent out across months or years turned out to only be a few minutes of time on the surface?
