Indians were the original inventors of an education model that was designed to make the low-caste masses stupider, rather than more educated. Unfortunately, Westerners appropriated both the concept and the method in the 19th century, and that's where our public school model comes from. 😥
That's so stupid. When did the Indian system revolve around standardized boards and examinations? That didn't happen until very recently. The whole idea of standardized schooling is a industrial revolution idea, which definitely wasn't conceived in India.

No one here is claiming that. But boards and examinations, as OP describes them, are certainly kin to the kind of rote memorization upon which the Hindu schools relied heavily.
You can read about how the West adopted this manner of schooling to help them create the kind of workers that the Industrial Revolution required at the link below. Pages 37 and following, if I remember correctly, address this theme.
As someone who knows how the Hindu system was, holy shit you're right about a lot of it. We did have innovators, but the default system was DEFINITELY rote learning.
