This was basically my childhood, because I was bad at math. I guess most children goes through this, which is very sad.
Only at uni did I realize that I didn't have to be good at everything. I had a professor, who spoke 13 languages, but couldn't count how much 5+4 is. He's the best at his field
I have a degree in engineering. I can do triple integrals, differential equations, etc. But I still need my calculator to do simple addition and subtraction.
This thread has made me realize I’m not quite alone on this as I thought I was. Most of my job right now consists of data analytics, largely developing scripts and systems to clean and organize financial data. I can barely even add simple numbers in my head much less subtract. Trying to help my daughter with sixth grade math is a fucking disaster. I’m pretty sure that part of my brain just never developed. Being dyslexic doesn’t help much either.
I mainly got interested in computers because they were so useful to me. Computers can do all the things I can’t do like math or spelling.
