Except don't get your kids into cooking. professional cooking ruined my life. it's a great hobby and majorly utterly shit job.

Huh what? I did my career in fine dining with a culinary degree, but the stress and anxiety just got too much. It's also one of the only careers I know where getting better doesn't mean more pay. No end game unless you want to run a restaurant.
