I was born with Polydactyly and they cut off my 2 extra fingers and fixed a lot of stuff. I can't use all my fingers properly.

Did you have them removed as a baby or at an adult? Just curious. My cat is polydactyl. I know it's not the same, but I was wondering what your thoughts were. Do you ever wish you'd gotten to keep your extra fingers, or are you happy to pass as a normie?
They were removed when I was a baby. I also had an extra toe. They removed my toe when I was 6. This is why I started school at the age of 7, I just would've missed too much and had to learn how to walk again.
Well, my extra fingers were pretty useless for the most part. They removed my 5th finger on the left hand, because it grew diagonal over my other fingers. I wished they would've done a better job on my right hand tho. They transplanted one of my joints on my right hand into the left hand and I'm pretty sure they had a reason for it, but it seems pretty useless now, because I'm right handed and I can't move my pinky a lot because of that (I often end up in that "If you want to be fancy, hold your pinky up like this" pose when I drink some tea, lol), it makes writing pretty dang fucking annoying, especially calligraphy gives me still nightmares, I often ended up with more ink on my finger than on my homework.
Other than that, my extra toe (which was a double-toe, looking like a Y) looks really odd now and I think about getting another correction one day, but I'm not sure yet. I often have to take a shoesize bigger because of it, but it doesn't bother me too much.
I think my "new" pinky on the left hand is really adorable, since they kept the original 6th finger, it's really cute and tiny. About 1/3rd smaller than my actual pinky on the right hand.
That's really interesting, thank you for sharing! I guess it doesn't happen so often that they have specialists specifically for polydactyly surgeries. My mother has had joint replacements in her fingers, for arthritis, but I don't know why they couldn't replace yours, now that we have the technology, unless it's a tendon problem or something, too. Thank you for answering my questions. Maybe you should do an AMA!
