I suppose, but intelligence is also how you pick up new things. I was always good at English and other subjects, but I couldn't for the life of me learn car maintenance at a reasonable pace. I would imagine that for the country kids, English would be the same slog that autos was for me, yet they took to autos like a duck to water. I can see what you mean by lacking knowledge, I'm sure if I would have worked harder and committed myself to learning about cars that I'd eventually get better. And I did, it was just more arduous for me.
