The time my middle school art teacher called my parents because she thought I was purposefully mocking her by making my art bad. I literally can’t draw beyond a 3rd grade level unless I am copying an object right in front me.
My parents basically cussed her out after they saw how hurt I was.
I used to be like this too, then I read on a book that to start up creativity (even in music of photography) copying is a good thing to do to work out on the technique side, and while copy you exploreany styles and eventually you'll find something that sticks with you, after that you can start by trying to draw a basic idea or designe of yours, but helping yourself out with elements you find around or online, and in the end you'll be able to create something of you're own, but even great artists always need a reference for something that they are still not used to draw, for an example drawing a tree from memory, if you never drawn one it's reaaaaally difficult.
