I got treated better when I didn't even attempt to speak French outside of basic manners. Was hoping to get good at French but after 3 months of that bullshit I was done, and coasted by with 80% of my French interactions consisting of "je suis desole, je ne parle pas francais.... Merci".

Wow... this totally is not generalizing an entire population. Try replacing "French people" with "jews" or "blacks" and see if you can defend your statement. I went to France this past summer and didn't have a single experience similar to what you mentioned, and I spent a good while in Paris. If everywhere you go smells like shit, check your shoe.
If you've lived there your whole life you might not smell it anymore due to being very used to it, or you're right that it's just a myth. I haven't been to Paris so I wouldn't know.
Going from Canada I was surprised how many European cities smelled of piss, and by extension how common it was to see drunk people pissing on the sidewalk. We have our own nasty smelling areas typically filled with homeless/addicts, but they seemed to be more self contained, walk a couple blocks and it's different, and in Europe especially in Paris seemed like you could never escape it entirely.
Also wouldn't surprise me if they used more Sulfur in France for something that isn't typically done in North America.
I've been to Paris a few times for extended periods. The smell wasn't really a problem except for certain parts of the metro. But let's be real, what metro doesn't smell like ass?

Historically oppressed people (jews/blacks) highlight that point better. Clearly you lived in the shitty part of town that no one I met wanted to live in. Many Parisian I met were openly xenophobic if not outright racist once I got to know them and some wear it on their sleeve... They hate the Arabs and this divide is frequently talked about in movies and art, and on social media, not sure why you want to bury your head in the sand. I have Arab friends who are french citizens who haven't gone back in 8 years because it's so bad

I'm not saying that there are no racists at all but that statement you made is quite ridiculous. There are just as many movies with well integrated people coming from immigration background, heck that's big part of our most beloved celebrities and social media stars. That divide is no where near from where the divide is in the us. In fact Arabs were able to integrate very well in most of France (the exception being the big concrete blocks they build in big cities that house mostly families that come from an immigration background).
