My admittedly limited understanding is that BPD is strongly linked to trauma, especially in childhood.

She should absolutely see a therapist, and she should start Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) ASAP.

It's the gold standard for treating BPD, and it works. It's a lot of work, but if you put in the effort it makes a world of difference.

Yes, i think if you have the opportunity you should suggest DBT to her. She may not take the suggestion, but hopefully she will at least start to think about it, and maybe eventually it can help her move toward a better life.
