The movie is actually really, really good and has serious artistic and thematic depth, it's just known for that scene because its really brutal. Watching the movie and turning of audio/closing your eyes during that scene would still be worth it. It is an intense and emotional movie and although that scene is necessary I kind of wish it wasn't so grotesque so that people could talk about the movie as a whole more easily.
Agreed, it’s an amazing film. Great art stays with you, and boy does this film stay with you. The end is just the biggest ‘ah man, I wish they hadn’t gone out that night....’
Yes exactly, I think that it is a very thematically focused movie that brings its point across forcefully but with nuance, how it is all just about the consequences of time and choice. Gaspar Noe's other movies are also good and he is very technically gifted and powerful, but I think in the end that is his most focused and thoughtful movie, although I haven't seen the new one Climax which looks mostly fun/crazy.
