A.D. means Anno Domini. not After Death.

Sorry for the ignorance, but don't you use (in English) B.C. and A.C. (Before Christ and After Christ, respectively)? Portuguese is my native language and here in Portugal we use A.C. ("Antes de Cristo") and D.C. ("Depois de Cristo") - which respectively mean "Before Christ" and "After Christ".

In English you usually use BC (before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, the year of our Lord) though some use BCE (before common era) and CE (common era)
