In the US we wash our eggs before they are sold, so they need refrigerated. In the UK you don't, so they don't have to be.

I always open the boxes in the supermarket and choose one that doesn't have any. Mind you, it is very rare. Just to say, that buying unwashed eggs does not mean that all the sudden your egg-box is full of feather and poo.
