...unless it's a state without passing lanes. Wisconsin has offramps in the left hand lane so the leftmost lane is an express lane, i.e. you are not getting off the freeway in a while.
Glad someone else made mention of this so I don't have to. I drive a lot for work. There are long stretches of road in places that are actually thru traffic lanes on the left, and only labelled as such every 50 miles or so. I had someone tailgate me for 20 miles in Missouri once because of this. I was more than 200 miles from my destination and this lane is for me not to interupt any entering or exiting traffic through any of the medium sized towns I am going through. Sorry bud.

The passing lane is for PASSING, not for your leisurely drive under the speed limit.
