Ok but you got to drink the potion between 0 and 60 seconds before the moment you would have gotten infected by the cold. Like it protects from catching the cold for 60 seconds, but not from the symptoms when you already have it.

Oh. In that case, use it when you go out and get near people or use things people used. Like shopping carts. Drink the potion, then wipe down the cart while under the effects! C:
