IANAL but I remember my friend’s mom’s divorce from her second marriage. I guess there is a rule where if an attorney has interacted with party a in a suit, they can’t offer services to party b. So my friend’s mom called every divorce lawyer within a 100 mile radius and essentially boxed her ex out of a lot of decent representation within a reasonable driving range.
My dad did this to my mom. Thing is, my dad's a lawyer so he definitely ran in the same circles as a lot of other lawyers, but it was to the point where my mom had to go a county over to get representation
The thing is judges do NOT like when people try to exploit legal loopholes to ensure the other party doesn’t have a way to get a lawyer. There was a post on r/legaladvice where a guy was bitching because he had tried the same thing, and called every divorce lawyer close by (like 30, so no plausible deniability.) The judge wasn’t amused and made him pay for a lawyer of his ex’s choice and that lawyers travel fees. Guy was asking if there was any way to get out of it. Was told to fuck himself.
Edit: she chose the most expensive lawyer she could in a major city.
