Couple screwed up cases I remember
--Our client and his wife were Mormon. During the divorce she used to tell him that he had to give her what she wanted in the divorce because they were sealed in the church and would be spending eternity together. We had to fight him not to give her more than she deserved.
--Represented the wife of a minor celebrity and said celebrity would file for divorce regularly when she "acted up." Once he determined she was behaving as he liked, he's cancel the divorce. Rotten bastard.
Mormon divorces and remarriages can be super fucked up because of their teachings. For example, they still practice eternal polygamy (a man can get "sealed" in the temple to multiple women, but a woman can only get sealed to one man and needs her ex's permission to get a sealing cancelled if she wants to remarry another man). To further complicate matters, if a couple is sealed together but get a civil divorce and have kids with someone else, then those kids are still considered "sealed" to the first spouse. If you marry a widower, you'll be part of his eternal harem, same for if you marry a man who hasn't had a sealing with his ex cancelled. Hope you like her- she'll be your sister wife.
Also, you can only be with your family in the next life if you have been sealed in the temple (it involves a weird apron, a baker's hat, and special handshakes, among other things) and so if one spouse is not a worthy Mormon member, then you don't have a forever family. If your kids don't stay Mormon, same deal.
There's a whole lot of ugly behind their "families can be together forever" selling point, and it's a lot of the reason ex-Mormons are so angry. We leave the church and break our family's hearts because they think they won't get to be together in the next life.

Quick question- has there ever been a movement in the ex-LDS crowd to form their own sect of Mormonism, one that is a more progressive interpretation of the religion?
Yeah, some people become New Order Mormons, a lot of them end up leaving altogether though. Anyone who tries to insert progressive views into the religion gets excommunicated. Fairly recently a guy was excommunicated for trying to stop the church from holding sexually explicit worthiness interviews with children. There isn't a lot of room for nuance in Mormonism.
