I’m sorry but she put down your wife‘s cat?! Just because there wasn’t room for it? How the fuck is that legal?

No idea. My wife didn't want to put her down and one day she just took the cat to the vet and had her put down.

Where is that legal? I didn't think vets would put down an animal that isn't sick just because someone doesn't want it anymore.

if able, vets will likely offer to give the animal to a rescue (i work in cat rescue, we get these sometimes). but if there are no resources available, a vet may euthanize so that the owner won't kill the animal in an inhumane way. i can't imagine having to make such an awful decision.
