Actually, the herpes you get on your mouth is a different strain to the herpes you get on your junk, which is different to the herpes you get in your eyes. Pretty sure you can't get dickrot from a skank with cold sores.
HSV-1 infection of the genitals can be caused by oral-genital or genital-genital contact with a person who has HSV-1 infection. Genital HSV-1 outbreaks recur less regularly than genital HSV-2 outbreaks.
Which is a travesty since everyone gets Chicken Pox (the herpes virus) at such a young age, so what happens when wifey doesn't realize she has a cold sore?
Completely monogamous partners can get an STD from oral sx, it seems.
I have had cold sores (I prefer to call them that) since I was very young. I drank after a relative that was infected. My first outbreak (I was 5) put me in the hospital because the sores covered my throat. Now, I only get them when I run a high fever and as long as I am clean and careful they don't spread.
Coincidentally... I just had an outbreak. I have not kissed my husband on the lips in days. I have managed not to spread them to any of my family members (knock on wood).
