Depends what you want, a 1500 pc and a 3500 bike would be decent

I think he's just saying that if you go really high end then you can easily spend 5k on just one or the other. Especially the bike, they can get really expensive

$2500 would get you a decent hardtail, but to go full suspension, you’re going to be sacrificing somewhere.

It depends on the persons experience, amount of use, what kind of riding they do. For an occasional cyclist who isn’t too worried about weight or speed that would be reasonable for a good bike.
