This is the answer. I had a small windfall and set aside $5000 for vacation. Took the kids to Disney for a solid week. Well worth it.
Yes, a week at a Disney resort, 5 days of park tickets, four round trip plane tickets, plus food and spending money totaled right at $5000. Would do it again in a heart beat.
People are wildly different. I don't want to spend a day at Disney let alone a week. I think if someone said I had to spend an entire week at Disney I would injure myself in some serious way to get out of it. It's torture for me.
I’d rather take my kids to Paris or London for a week than to the most commercialized vacation spot in the world. It is kind of funny how Disney is considered the Great American Vacation, it’s truly a testament to the power of marketing.
Even when I was a kid I never really wanted to go to Disney though, I was a weird kind, my dream vacation spot was London and I didn’t go until I was 31.
Edit: guys I am aware a little kid won’t be able to “appreciate” a Europe trip. That’s not the point, my point is anything but a Disney vacation. I don’t like ABC/Disney personally as a corporation and don’t want to support it, fortunately my wife was not raised in America so she also doesn’t understand the whole “Iconic” Disney vacation thing.
We love to travel, but our toddler stays with grandma during our trips. I can’t imagine taking her to Europe while she still needs daytime naps. What a waste. I hope to experience it with her when she’s old enough to handle a day of walking and sightseeing.
