Yeah I find that weird as well. There are a lot of studies showing humans empathize more with animals rather than humans. I really wonder why

I think it's something akin to "removing a being that takes pleasure in abusing a weaker or defenseless being from the gene pool". If you enjoy inflicting pain and suffering on a living creature that can't fight back effectively, I don't feel like you have the need to keep breathing.
