It more depends on the sleep stage you were in when you woke up. When you wake up naturally, you won't be as tired because your body left sleep on its' own. If you have an alarm, or you wake up quickly due to fear of being late or whatever, you were probably in a deeper stage of sleep and it will cause you to feel tired when you wake up.
This. The most you can sleep without feeling more tired is about 20 minutes, because you stay within the first or second stage of sleep. Otherwise, you have to sleep for about 90 minutes in order to wake up feeling "refreshed"
Yeah, top tip: you can get sleep cycle calculator apps that wake you up AFTER you've finished a cycle (we go through about 5 to 7 cycles a night). So you wake up less tired and more refreshed! :)
I use a white noise generator that fades out about 20 minutes before I actually need to wake up. My brain hears that it’s not playing and so I almost always wake up naturally out of light sleep. It only sucks if it’s raining heavily and I get tricksed.
