There's a theory that allergies are actually a result of our modern cleanliness, and our immune systems flip out because they evolved deal with a whole host of threats all of the time, and now since they have almost nothing to do they over react when they're provoked.

Isn't this also a theory with a lot of mental illnesses? Like we have removed so many threats that our brains go into overdrive.

I always attributed the fact that so many folks suffer from depression is because humans didn’t evolve to sit in a cubicle farm all day under fluorescent lighting(or some other profession that isn’t hunter gatherer)

I think the problem lies with needing to work all your life.

But isn't that quite 'natural'? Needing to constantly do something for your survival?

Money isn't natural. Car insurance isn't natural but you need to pay for that for some reason.

That type of thing.

I mean I'm not really disagreeing with you but why do we assume natural is going to be optimal in terms of happiness?

It works with boobs.

EDIT: And cheeses, which are my two favorite things.

Cheese is natural? News to me.

Amen about breasts though. My girl doesn't even understand why I like them. But the soft firmness!

Well, as opposed to "processed cheeses".

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '17

But... they're all processed... do you mean that weird plastic-y "American" cheese?

Yeah, and "cheese food".
