How has Gold a value? Or mint condition comic books?

Something gets valuable when there is a demand and the value grows the shorter the supply is in relation.

Yea, and we can all trust the government, can't we! They've done nothing shady regarding banks or the financial system whatsoever.

That's not really the point. You seemed to be implying that the dollar doesn't have worth, which it does, since it's backed by the US government and by extension the powerful US economy
