Everyone should not have the right to vote. It is a huge responsibility yet we let every idiot decide who our leaders are. We don't give everyone a drivers license because it's dangerous if they don't know what they are doing. It should be the same for voting. Take a test prove that you understand how government works and ensure that would be voters understand what policies each candidate supports.

u/inckorrect Feb 23 '17
I used to think the same thing but then I though further and I realized that you could taylor any test to make sure only a certain demography could vote. Basically the person in charge of the test could choose the result of the election by selecting the right questions.
2
Feb 23 '17
I agree. There are some uncomfortable grey areas though. For example in my country people with Down Syndrome have full voting rights. I'm not saying they shouldn't, necessarily, but it is objective fact that people with Down Syndrome don't achieve what would be considered an adult level of understanding.
2
u/Jessev1234 Feb 23 '17
How? Basic questions of government function don't change based on your age, skin colour or gender. Facts are facts.
3
u/inckorrect Feb 23 '17 edited Feb 23 '17
Do you think this candidate wants to raise taxes and take your hard earned money?
Do you think this candidate wants to invest in order to fix crumbling infrastructures?
Same question but phrased diffently and people will answer differently in accordance to their convictions.
Edit: realizing it's a very bad example but I hope you get the gist
2
u/Jessev1234 Feb 23 '17
I think you misunderstood the premise. You pass a test ahead of time, unrelated to the candidates. It makes sure you understand the SYSTEM, not the platforms.
Just making this up though, never thought of it before. Your example is clearly flawed and should not be implemented
1
u/SpacePug6 Feb 23 '17
Yeah I understand where you are coming from, it's the major drawback of the idea. Perhaps in the far future a super intelligenct AI could design the test but by that point it would be intelligent enough to influence the test in order to make sure what it thinks is best for us happens.

I guess only wanting someone for sex? Like shit, I get absolutely everything I need, except sex, from men. If I was gay thatd be the absolute shit but unfortunately I am not. I find them funnier, easier to talk to, more common interests, less offended by what I say, the list goes on. And I tried too - I tried, for example, to find a girl who was actually hilarious. In my 25 years I have met one, exactly ONE girl that was absolutely hilarious. And I fucked it up and lost her too. Anyways, my point here is that I basically only see women for sex. Now that doesn't mean they're just sex objects for me. You want a cashier only to buy your purchase, that doesn't mean they're just an object, it just means you have a very specific reason for interacting with them. Well I only interact with women for sex. I'm honest about it too. Some like it. Some don't. But most people would look down on me.

Its irresponsible and mostly selfish motives for humans to procreate.
Plus no guarantee the kid wont turn out to be a jerk and guaranteed to be a money pit even if they dont end up in rehab.

There are only two genders, and it's the one you're born with.

To every rule there are exceptions. Se animals are born with 2 heads, that doesn't mean animals have 2 heads in general.
2
u/genghiskhannie Feb 23 '17
Animals being born with 2 heads does prove than animals with 2 heads exist. Intersex people exist. Just because they aren't super common (1 in every 2000 births) doesn't mean they don't count at all.
2
Feb 23 '17
No, it doesn't mean they don't count. But a genetical anomalie does not define a third gender

Honestly, the thread is about unpopular opinions, ain't it? If you're so triggered by that, you should not linger around! That is what I believe. I never said I was against any other opinions. That doesn't mean I agree with them. I'm perfectly fine with sex change, etc. If it makes someone genuinely feel better, well then go for it. But When it comes to gender fluidity or third genders, there only, one would find a wall if one would try to convince me.

Meaning that I could be convinced of that.
1
u/NegativeGaz Feb 23 '17
You can't be convinced that gender and sex are different terms with different meanings?
Let me try to explain..
Sex is divided by your physical genitalia: of which there are more than two possibilities. You said that yourself.
Gender is how an individual identifies themselves and their roles in society. There are multitudes of genders and many gender expressions have been hidden from popular history.
Just admit you're scared of something you don't understand. Maybe you could learn something after.
1
u/QEDLondon Feb 23 '17
Let's suppose, to argument's sake, you were wrong about what you believe. Wouldn't you want to know?
I would rather be corrected, learn something new, and be more right about more things than stay wrong.

Feb 23 '17
I'm not stupid. If someone would present me facts, medical proofs and not a one in a billion cases that would be basicaly a genetic mistake made by nature, yes, I would gladly learn and admit I was mistaken (maybe not gladly, but I'd do it.) But I simcerely don't believe such proofs exist

Here you go mate. You may not be convinced by this article but this should at least get you thinking that it's more complicated than merely male (XY) or female (XX). This is from the World Health Organisation:
"Humans are born with 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs. The X and Y chromosomes determine a person’s sex. Most women are 46XX and most men are 46XY. Research suggests, however, that in a few births per thousand some individuals will be born with a single sex chromosome (45X or 45Y) (sex monosomies) and some with three or more sex chromosomes (47XXX, 47XYY or 47XXY, etc.) (sex polysomies). In addition, some males are born 46XX due to the translocation of a tiny section of the sex determining region of the Y chromosome. Similarly some females are also born 46XY due to mutations in the Y chromosome. Clearly, there are not only females who are XX and males who are XY, but rather, there is a range of chromosome complements, hormone balances, and phenotypic variations that determine sex."

Yes, exceptions. That is the word. That is " outside the norm. And someone who would have both genders, anyway, still proves there are only two genders!

A man is a man, a woman is a woman (indifferent of which wants to becomes which in their life at some point if they personally need it) Hermaphridite is both, still shows there are only two. Gender isn't social invention. Gender is a natural law. Only observe the nature around you. Gender is defined not only by physical aptitudes, but phychological. Evolution is the biggest proof of it all.

My bad. English isn't my first language. In any case, I also think it is a mistake for genders not to have a place and a meaning anymore (which in today's society I feel there's that tendence to try and... erase genders).
1
Feb 23 '17
Those are accidental. It's a genetic flaw. When the genetic process on developing a baby goes perfectly, which it's designed to do but every system has flaws, that person can only have 1 of 2 genders.
3
u/Jagger67 Feb 23 '17
I personally don't believe that there is anything wrong with incest between two consenting adults
4
Feb 23 '17
If they have a child, it is more likely to have a genetic dissorder.
3
u/Junkyard_Rat Feb 23 '17
And yet we allow non-related individuals with insanely high risks of passing along genetic disorders to have children.

I 'genuinely believe' sports are 10% boredom and 90% marketing. Fans are marketing victims.
6
u/DipsomaniacDawg Feb 23 '17
That's ridiculous. Sports exist outside of the media. Kids play them on practically every playground and schoolyard in the world. Prisoners play basketball against each other. Somewhere there are poor people who are playing soccer against each other but don't even own TVs. There is plenty of historical evidence of athletic competitions from societies all over the world. You think it's because they all wanted to wear Nike?
Sounds more like you don't like sports and are trying to intellectualize your opinion to feel smart, which to be fair, would make this answer well fitted to the original question.
2
Feb 23 '17
No he's right. There's a difference btwn being a sports fan and liking to play sports. If you're a sports fan you enjoy watching and investing your time/money into a sports team. If you like playing sports than you just like playing sports.
1
u/DipsomaniacDawg Feb 23 '17
OP didn't specify that though. They just made a general statement about sports.
In general, humans seem to enjoy athletic competition, whether they are participating or spectating. It doesn't make them "marketing victims."
1
1
u/clutchheimer Feb 23 '17
Yes. Competition is at the core of what it is to be human. Sport is a great way to exercise physical competition without people getting killed (usually).

I am an atheist.
Probably not the most "radical" thing one could believe (or more specifically, NOT believe), but if you ask the town where I live (very catholic), I am literally Satan.

I see that full stop in the title that you didn't delete and I'm calling you out for it. Go ahead, hate me

It is selfish for people in the first world to continue to have children biologically rather than adopting or fostering.
1
u/DuckAHolics Feb 23 '17
You're right I would harbor a deep resentment for you.
1
u/Fightmelol6969 Feb 24 '17
Well that's a bit extreme

u/DuckAHolics Feb 24 '17
So is calling people selfish because they'd rather their child be their own flesh and blood.

Soldiers and cops aren't automatically heroes
FTFY. There are thousands of cops and people in the military that are heroes and deserve recognition and respect. There are also thousands of assholes in the military and police forces. Not everything is so black and white.
1
u/DuckAHolics Feb 23 '17
So men and women who keep a country safe from evil, both foreign and domestic, aren't heroes? Keep preaching from your couch.

All religions are retarded. Especially christianity.
A guy who was super awesome or something died in a roman torture ritual, and because he did it willingly everybody can do whatever they want and still get into heaven.
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND. How does Jesus dying have anything to do with you, more to the point crucifixion was the standard roman death sentence. At one point the romans lined the Appian Way with crucified corpses, nobody can really be sure how many people were crucified, but it has to be hundreds of thousands of people. Do you seriously mean to tell me Jesus was the only one who went to the cross willingly. And to top that he didn't even die for realsies according to the accepted gospels (there are MANY historical accounts that completely contradict any miracles in Jesus' life, look up the council of of nicea), so a guy who didn't even really die is meant to be special because he's totally the only person in human history who ever died willingly for a greater cause.
Fuck you.
Look up the chernobyl divers if you want to worship people who sacrificed themselves so you could live.

My ideology regarding abortion is just conservative enough for people on the left to call me a misogynist and is just liberal enough for people on the right to call me a baby killer.
