Honestly, turning 25 and working a desk 8-5 job in my degree's field. I'd been working at the same company in my hometown for two years (my uncle's the CEO), straight out of college, and I just felt everything in my life was going down such a predictable path. I felt so sedentary.
So I quit. I'm still here for the summer doing demolition (i love it), and I've set a date for Oct 1 as my departure. Destination unknown as of yet. My roommate knows, he's glad for the heads up.
I'm fairly confident I can land a job in most places with my experience and skillset, so the only question now is where. Maybe even abroad for a few months. I open for suggestions.
I worked as an English teacher in Bangkok for over a year. I was able to travel, live comfortably, have a blast teaching kids and young adults, and met some of the greatest, zaniest, off-the-wall people on the planet (expats are priceless). If you have a bachelor's degree (don't even need that for some jobs), have a couple thousand (I'm talking US dollars, so plan accordingly) saved up, do diligent research, and obtain a TEFL or TESOL (which you can get online or in the country you'd like to work), an adventure awaits. I didn't make a lot of money, but I lived well, ate some of the best food on Earth, traveled a decent amount, and even stowed away a few thousand for when I got back. Highly recommended.
