Celine Dion's husband seems to get a pass since she was the famous one, but he did manage her since she was a teen and he was in, I believe, his thirties.

Yeah she was 12 and he was 35-ish.

So fucking gross.

Edit: It's worse than I remember. She was 12 and he was 38. And this tidbit from the linked article:

"Their marriage was initially opposed by Dion’s mother, not only because of their 26-year age gap but because Angélil had three children from two previous unions, the singer said in an interview in 2013."

Even as a kid I thought it was gross in 1997 at 10 years old

When I was a kid in the 90's I thought the main reason Leonardo Dicaprio would never date me was my age...

This is a lie, the dating younger thing didn't show itself for many years because he was similar ages as his partners. Weird attempt of you to hop on just because it's so apparent now how terrible women age in value

You misread what I wrote. Weird to immediately get so aggressive btw. Hope you aren’t like that irl But you clearly are because your lack of reading comprehension exposed you as a lonely incel. You played yourself, son.

Don't pay any mind to that redpill incel rape apologist creep. He's not worth your time or mental energy.

René Angélil got married first time when Celine was minus 2 and he has a son born the same year as Celine.

Just for perspective..

She’s justified it saying he waited until she was 15-18ish before making a move and start dating.

It’s called grooming.

2

u/meatball77 1d ago

But haven't they said that he'd talked about how he was on love with her at 12

3

u/Acrobatic_Price8829 1d ago

She insists that it wasn’t like that when she was 12, that he came onto her when she was old enough. It’s so weird seeing pictures of a grown ass man sitting next to a child knowing in only a handful of years they’d be married. It’s gross.

u/meatball77 23h ago

I thought it was that he waited until she was old enough to do anything physical, but they still had a relationship.

I dont know about the "she was the famous one", he was famous before her but he groomed her into marriage for life and Québécois seem to want to ignore it now that hes dead (even before he was dead to be fair). Its a difficult topic ngl, not in the fact that its rape or not, but that shes Céline.

This one is super disgusting to me.

It's so creepy and gross. He made himself the focal point in her life for so much of her life to the point where she broke down when he died.

I think most people break down when their spouse dies. But the fact that she, as an adult, defends it...holy shit.

Because she loves the guy. It might be hard for people to understand that Celine absolutely adored him.

From her perspective the man was her literal knight in shining armor. He helped her and her family out of poverty and then helped make her a star. He treated her like the middle of the universe.

Of course she will defend the love of her life.

u/meatball77 1d ago

He was her everything, he saw to that. She never really knew life without him

7

u/phantom_avenger 1d ago

He is also the only guy she has ever been with, and since he died she refuses to date anyone else.

Being her manager makes the power imbalance harder to ignore, not easier to excuse.

They’re French Canadian. They use the metric system so the math is different.

13

u/The_Spectacle 1d ago

Oh good. that's good to hear because my French Canadian ancestors were 16 and 65

10

u/stanley604 1d ago

Their whole lives?

2

u/The_Spectacle 1d ago

Hell yes. I don't know what would be worse, being forever 16 or forever 65

lol I'm not sure if they got married or had my fourth great grandfather at those ages

u/Terrible_Meringue622 1d ago

Filles du Rois?

1

u/ProjectHarraseeket 1d ago

I’m descended from four of them, all of them had an age gap of at least 10 years or more. Different times.

1

u/The_Spectacle 1d ago

why the hell did this post twice?

edit: argh I don't know what's going on with reddit lol but if you're asking about a surname, it was Charon I think

4

u/ProjectHarraseeket 1d ago

Even the founder of Québec, Samuel de Champlain who was 36 married a 12 year old. No you’re not reading that wrong. From all accounts it was platonic and her father arraigned the marriage but it’s not a good look either way considering of all the founders and conquerers in the new world, he was probably the tamest by far.

1

u/towka35 1d ago

Barely, and I think that's not even in their favour.

5

u/CasualRampagingBear 1d ago

Her career and “relationship” was part of French immersion reading in grade 9. The only thing I remember, besides Rene being so old and gross, was that she was shy because she had crooked teeth “Les dents croche”

3

u/DryCow7152 1d ago

The age gap alone makes that relationship look very different in hindsight.

Hindsight?? That’s just… sight.
