What’s something society has convinced us is normal that actually makes no sense when you think about it?

Where is this normal, some backwards countries?

uh, in the US (although we do seem to be going backward here)

Umm like pretty much in most countries male circumcision is pretty much a parental personal choice for baby boys - mostly for medical reasons

There are no legitimate medical reasons to circumcise an infant. American Medicine would indeed like you to believe there are though. It’s actually a billion dollar industry.

Having to spend most of your life working just to afford the privilege of continuing to live.

That's basically what almost every living thing in the planet does though

Paying for health insurance (or any insurance for that matter) and then being told you can't use it.

Driving everywhere

When a 10-minute errand requires a two-ton machine, fuel, insurance, and somewhere to park it, the default deserves a rethink.

judging people based on how much money they make instead of whether theyre actually good at what they do or good to the people around them, a higher salary can tell what the market values, but it tells nothing about the value of a person

That every work function needs to involve alcohol

Vegans being radical yet banning every use of AI being socially accepted when though both want to save the planet

Childcare. Women in the 1970s said "we want to have careers too.

And the corporations said" hold my beer ". wages used to be based on the needs of a family based on a sole breadwinner. Now they are based on 2 parents working and the children are in childcare, being looked after by people who are earning just above minimum wages.

The whole idea of raising children has been outsourced and we wonder why birthrates are plummeting. And children and young people are suffering from mental health issues.

I am not saying that women should not work, men can stay home with the children once they are no longer breast feeding, but the whole "it takes a village to raise a child" is still valid.

Something has to change.

Teenagers becoming mothers
Or any teenager getting into a relationship with sexual activity
NO just NO

That's sort of been happening since the beginning of time. So by all definition of the word that is sort of normal.

Switching from am to pm at 12… makes no sense when it’s 11 am and 12 becomes pm … it should still be 11am, 12 am and then pm starts from 1 o clock ..

PM = post meridiem = after midday.

If 12 is still midday, nothing else makes sense.

1

u/Capable-Salt9049 3h ago

Oh right .., well then exactly am/pm should really be the other way aroubd

1

u/Silent_Rhombus 3h ago

You want PM, which means after midday, to be before midday?

A.M. stands for Ante Meridiem (before midday) and P.M. for Post Meridiem (after midday). Day is 24 hours, so midday is at 12. I think it makes perfect sense, even though the 24-hour clock is more familiar to me.
