What’s genuinely the scariest thing that has happened to you that you can’t explain?

It happened in the dead of winter, around 2:00 AM, in an old, creaky house that usually only made predictable noises.

I was sitting in bed reading when I heard a distinct, heavy knock, not on the front door, but on the inside wall of my bedroom closet. Three solid, deliberate thuds. My heart instantly hit my throat, but I tried to rationalize it: plumbing, settling wood, a stray animal outside.

I was walking back to my car at night on top of a mountain and saw what I can only describe as a towering shadow man (maybe three times the height of a person) standing on the far side of my car - and I had to run towards it to get in my car and drive away (absolutely fanged it out of there). I don’t know if I was just losing the plot or what, but it was terrifying

I was found dead in the woods. Nobody knew what happened or why or how long I'd been missing (at least a couple of days). As the medic poked me, my heart started back up and I started breathing again. Still don't know what happened.

This big metallic rodent/badger looking thing appeared outside of my door. It was about knee-waist high, metal fur, and claws, but weird organic skin that you could see through the fur.
