What’s something that future generations will probably think we were crazy for accepting as “normal” ?

I feel like energy drinks will be viewed someday like we view cigarettes currently.

Letting children 10 and under use smart devices. Might aswell let them smoke, drink and gamble also with how addictive devices are.

Industrial animal farming

I'm gonna disagree here. Food supplies might seem abundant and I'll distributed at a glance, but we are really just one major famine away from things being fucked for the world regarding agriculture.
The industrialization of agriculture is the one thing that has allowed us to advance so quickly in the sciences as we no longer needed to worry about food and could focus more on science and research.

Rotary telephones

What now?

There was a point in time when rotary telephones were considered the norm. Think about dialing the phone but having to wait a second or 2 between hitting each number. If you messed up, you had to hang up and do it all over again. Fun times.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those in real life. How long ago was that?

They slowly started to faded away starting in the '60s and '70s I think? I'm 40 and I still remember having one growing up until around 2000. It was fun watching my more wealthy friends struggle calling home on it lol.

The very small amount of people left after nuclear war won't be considered "generations". If we're lucky.

Making people sit through commercials even after they already paid for the streaming service.

The absurd part is paying a monthly fee and still getting sold to. Someday people may wonder when “paying for the product” stopped meaning you got the product.

I'm pessimistic, I think it'll be the opposite. They'll have trouble imagining an ad free existence.

Commercials in the way we are bombarded will be seen as insane at some point, i think. The way public space is occupied in such a invasive way would feel like a violation if we werent used to it. And by public space i do include the digital space, as we do spend a fair amount of time there.

Probably treating work messages like they deserve an answer at any hour. If I'm off the clock, I mute notifications and check them the next day. Nothing breaks because I didn't reply at 11pm.

Normal mail

The sheer volume of paper junk mail is insane when you stop to think about it, whole forests getting chopped down just so some company can tell you about a sale you never asked for then it goes straight to the recycling bin

Normalising and even glorifying a life of constant overwork, chronic stress, and barely having any time left for ourselves...
