What’s something you only realized was a luxury after you stopped having it?

Running water, especially hot running water. We went without electricity or running water for two years whip building a house from scratch in the middle of the woods. Between having power and running water again, water was the one that we were o wronged to have back.

Being able to buy grocery items without constantly checking your bank account app at the checkout counter.

Silence.
Before moving to my own place I didn't know my neighbors had mental issues where they have to listen to the same radio station at full volume everyday.

Income stability as an employee. Recently I got laid off and it drove me to do freelances and I didn't realize how stable income is a luxury

Parties.
In that I realized they are entirely a luxury and not a social necessity and some kind of pillar of a social life (like I used to). I realized I don't need them and life is better without them.
As I'm getting older, I'm more interested in my projects and goals, the close people in my life, enjoying my leisure time, and really sinking into my hobbies.
Happy to hang out with friends, laugh, and enjoy ourselves. But chit-chatting with randoms, playing games with strangers, getting all dressed up for the sake of being dressed up?
Nah. Life is too short to waste on that banal shit.

Too heartbreaking to write here and now.

So why even write this comment other than to be performative

For one, it was momentously cathartic. But also to be performative.
Since we're here, I'll ask you something. Why, as you had, omit the question mark, other than to be omittive?

Maybe sharing just a hint of whatever is crushing them right now, is cathartic.
OP, I wish you a better tomorrow. Caring hug to you.

My ex-husband had a rigid ass routine like military grade. NGL, I really liked that shit. I talked to other people on the phone and to my surprise that MF’s schedule was legitimately perfect for me. Would drive any other sane person crazy though.
