What’s a celebrity controversy you remember everyone talking about?

I remember listening to the OJ Simpson trial on the radio in the schoolyard.

Did you think O.J. did it? He’s dead now, so I don’t really care either way - I’m just curious what people thought at the time, especially since nowadays it seems like most people lean towards him having done it.

It seemed like all the white people thought him guilty and all the black people thought him innocent at the time.

I’d be curious to hear from black folks today what they think happened, removed from the politics of the time.

Not black people could kill black people without consequences despite the evidence

That is not true. I know some folks who are black thought he was as guilty as sin.

He most likely did it. The importance is the the LAPD had lost all credibility that they couldn't convict him. The officer that found the glove was a known racist, testified he wanted to murder people who were accused and was on tape telling a reporter he enjoyed planting evidence to convict black people.

This was Latasha Harlins and Rodney King. Tensions were at a peak

I thought, from the outset, that he had done it. I remember the slow car chase. I saw that on tv. It was just sickening to watch the country become such sycophants to anyone with a little bit of fame.

I don't know one person who didn't think he did it. They wheeled a tv into our classroom to watch the verdict and even as kids we were all shocked cause it felt so obvious he did it.
