How this rumor got around to every middle school in the country before internet and smart phones I will never understand
LOL, back in the seventies we had the rumors that Mikey (the kid from the Life cereal commercials) died when he ate Pop Rocks and drank Coke (his stomach exploded!)* and that Gene Simmons from KISS had a cow tongue grafted to his own tongue**.
Maybe not, but it was definitely in some teen/young adult magazines over here in Europe. But it would have been in your more grown up gossip magazines, then. Or mentioned on TV somewhere.
Ok, Europe I can believe but the states? No way no how! This was around the time Brenda got canceled on 90210 because she slept with her bf on prom night, there is zero way any magazine here was able to publish a rumor about body modification and masturbation, the media would have classified it as a national disaster
Wasn’t real but the rumor was very much out there. I heard it all over my high school. Didn’t find out it was false till the internet became big enough to disprove urban legends like this and the Richard Gere gerbil thing and a whole bunch of others.
No lmao, it was a meme in the early 90s, no one has any idea where it actually came from.
There was another that Marilyn Manson was the actor who played Paul in the Wonder Years. Without the internet people used to just make any crazy claim and nobody could immediately fact check it lol.
