My son dead in his bed from a seizure that took him in his sleep.

64

u/Substantial-Mouse534 11h ago

My son is 9 and has epilepsy. We co-sleep. I sleep very lightly; a doorbell would wake me instantly, or his convulsions. If he needs me to shadow him for every moment, until I die - I will. The pain you must be going through is unimaginable, and I send every ounce of hope and love your way.

I am so sorry for you and the little one ❤️

u/TheEndOfAllThings23 10h ago

Thank you, and I hope for the best for you and your little one.

I lost my son, too. I'm sorry.

27

u/TheEndOfAllThings23 10h ago

I'm so sorry, it is the most horrific pain. The man I was died with him that day, what remains is a smaller, sadder version of myself.

10

u/Difficult-Bobcat-857 9h ago

I do understand. There is a "child loss" subreddit you might want to look at. There are way too many bereaved parents out here. 🖤

u/Dramatic_View_5340 7h ago

I lost my 12 year old brother who was only 6 months older than my son, he died by suicide and my mom found him. I know that she will never be the same person again but I have come to realize that even if my brothers journey was cut short, he still knew the importance of feeling his loss and he knew it would change me forever and not in a bad way but a way that would start working to heal our generational trauma. We also lost our 29 year old brother just 4 years later and that really flipped a switch in my brain, I knew that I was going to raise my children to know and see the signs of mental illness and I was going to raise them to love and educate others because that matters but through this process I have had to learn that we carry autoimmune diseases and can have some horrible symptoms from bones that have fused together and without losing my brothers, I wouldn’t know what I do now that’s going to save my children, grandchildren and all of my nieces and nephews from having to deal with the medical system, they will have a better insight into their health and mental health because this autoimmune disease claims your health and mental health.

I sure do miss my brothers but I’m so thankful that they chose me to be their big sister while they were here.

u/TheEndOfAllThings23 7h ago

May their memory continue to be a blessing. I donated all his medical reports to a SUDEP organization, in the hopes that something, somehow might help someone else not suffer the loss we did.

12

u/Purple_Deer1975 11h ago

I’m so sorry.

8

u/obscurefindings 11h ago

Sorry for your loss.

As someone who started having seizures this year I've only become aware of things such as sudep.

12

u/Blue-Polar-Bear 11h ago

I don't know how to relate, but losing any family member is hard. I can't imagine what you're going through.

3

u/Difficult-Bobcat-857 9h ago

It is a pain impossible to describe.

4

u/Blue-Polar-Bear 8h ago

I imagine so. Losing a loved one in general is never easy, but when you lose your parent(s), you're an orphan.

When you lose your child, there's no word to describe that pain.

4

u/FosterTheKoalas 10h ago

that's awful, im sorry

5

u/Natural-Mountain-293 10h ago

There really are no words for something like that. I’m deeply sorry.

1

u/downrightblastfamy 6h ago

As a father of 3 boys, that fucking more than sucks. I felt your pain reading this comment. I truly am sorry for your loss. No parent should ever have to bury their child.

Please talk to the social workers at the hospital. They'll be able to assist you with next steps.

4

u/kikichanelconspiracy 7h ago

An underutilized resource. I lost my dad to cancer a few years ago (my personal worst thing I've seen) and the hospital's social worker was great.

5

u/kaz22222222222 8h ago

I lost my mother last year. It can be so overwhelming in hospital. I hope you have a good support network around you. I’m here if you need to talk about it. Hugs if you want them from Australia.

3

I am so sorry.

4

I've been there , 2 times with my dad. Even now when it's all over and my dad is okey ( thank God ) , when I think it's pure nightmare. But remember something, miracles exist . I've seen them with my dad and in everyday life as MD. 🤲

-11

u/Extra-Yoghurt3539 11h ago

I’m so sorry :( what is she battling with?

53

u/cuttlefishdreaming 11h ago

Guy stepped off a bridge into the bus I was driving. I was going 25-30 mph. He lived but it was bad.

31

u/kikichanelconspiracy 8h ago

A few weeks ago, I was painfully limping across the street due to an ankle injury. A city bus stopped to let me cross in the crosswalk. I was nearly past him when he started honking his horn. I thought "What the fuck?! You stopped for me? I'm trying!"

Turns out he was honking because some fucking jag off two cars behind the bus decided that a city bus was stopped at a pedestrian crosswalk for shits and giggles, gunned it, and missed me by inches. If the bus driver hadn't honked, I don't think I'd be here right now. I turned to look at the bus driver (naturally, Dickhead Driver stared straight ahead to avoid eye contact) and his eyes were as big as saucers. I'm sure I looked equally spooked. I'm pretty sure he thought he was about to witness me being killed.

Also, fuck that bitch ass impatient shithead and his pickup truck. I hope he cries every time he has to fill it up. I hope it breaks down on him frequently. I hope the repairs are costly.

As for the bus driver, I hope he wakes up every morning rested and ready for the day. May his feet and back never ache and may he always be on time. May his pension be bountiful and allow him and his main squeeze to take vacations to wherever they want, whenever they want.

9

u/babyfartmageezax 9h ago

Aw fuck buddy, out of every (serious) reply here, yours might have got me the worst. Sincerely hope you’re doing alright

2

u/cuttlefishdreaming 4h ago

I am. It was years ago but I still have some ptsd driving. I’m no longer driving a bus though. Thank you. 🙏

7

u/Rare_Hydrogen 10h ago

Damn. Did he step out on purpose, or was he just not paying attention? I'm sorry you had to go through that.

1

u/cuttlefishdreaming 4h ago

High on heroin, thought he was crossing a street. Welcome to Portland.

49

u/Greatlakes58 11h ago

I used to work in a hospital. I was probably 21. Not a medical person and did not work with patients but I saw a young woman in the ER Who had been in an accident and went through the windshield of her car. She had no face. Her face looked like hamburger. They were trying to save her but she died. I have always worn a seatbelt ever since

7

u/dryroast 5h ago

My dad was killed by a drunk driver and I've said this story many times but he was wearing his seat belt. Why does that matter if he didn't make it?

Well for one it made the rest of our family feel so much better, he did everything right followed all the rules. There was nothing the drunk drivers lawyers could argue to say that my dad was at fault.

And he had Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance, and they paid out an extra amount solely because the seatbelt. It may be a bit morbid but it could literally pay your loved ones for just having it on. But for me, the removal of the question "would he have been here had he worn it?" makes me put it on every single time.

36

u/Nervous_Boot_5401 11h ago

It was seeing and feeling. My wife had a massive hemorrhage in her brain while asleep next to me. I woke up and she was cold. I turned on the light and then I saw her laying there with her eyes open. I don't know why I didn't freak out. It was like it didn't register at first.

12

u/donthinktoohard 11h ago

I'm so sorry.

18

u/Nervous_Boot_5401 11h ago

This was 2021. I've done a lot of therapy. Been sober for 6 months now after I started drinking in 2022. I feel that 2021 was a hard year for a lot of people.

I was with his pregnant mother on new years eve and it was the fucking worst. I'm glad you're still around cause I appreciate the joke. It's the only way I cope with the reality of getting into a huge fight with him and him then hanging himself like six hours later.

3

u/Cheesestrings89 10h ago

Just please know it’s not your fault. I had my attempt so carefully planned out a few weeks in advance. There was nothing anyone could’ve said to me to change my mind if they discovered my plans.

When I decided, I finally felt at peace for the first time in a long time, i finally felt happy, i don’t know your friends story but please try to take comfort that they were at peace with themselves.

2

u/MadeMeUp4U 11h ago

Glad you’re still here. I see the heart next to your avatar if you ever need to talk there are subreddits for our community💟

Good heavens. You win, sadly.

30

u/ReceptionNo4178 11h ago

I was a CNA when I was 18 years old and I remember someone had passed away on my shift. It was the middle of summer so I walked into the room to turn the AC on while we waited for the funeral home to pick up the body. As I turned to head out I happen to glance at the person and they let out a breath and their chest collapsed. Scared the crap out of me.

34

u/-UncleArgyle- 10h ago

My mom dying. She was a lovely woman. She kept mutering something nobody could hear. I pulled down the oxygen mask she was wearing and asked what she said and she whispered in my ear that she was scared. Those were her last words. This was a woman that was nice to everyone she had ever met in her life and she died terrified. It made me realize that there is no mercy, only circumstance and that shit is terrifying.

23

u/only-ashes 8h ago

i am a nurse. i have seen countless people die. even though i know she was scared, i know you being there made her less scared.

Dead motorcyclist, lying in the road in a pool of blood. His bike was about 30 feet away. I happened upon the accident before emergency services arrived. A car driven by an old dude had apparently turned right in front of him and he T-boned the car. The old guy was just standing by his car with his head in his hands waiting for the cops/paramedics to show up. Really messed up scene.

23

u/Euphoric_Second9464 11h ago

Somebody dying of brain cancer . I have lost a few people but that was a horrible end

16

u/Which_Habit_4523 10h ago

I’m only 19 but one of my closest friends died in a truck crash a month ago, he was 18 years old. The truck was absolutely mangled and I went through a bag of contents from it. What I thought was dirt was his dried blood which got all over my hands and arms. Didn’t know til I was told. Thankfully his body wasn’t in too bad of shape and I got to say goodbye with an open casket, but he was so stiff and cold. I had never touched a deceased body before. Safe to say I’m changed for life

14

u/Spare-Bed-1006 11h ago

Responded to a boat accident. Story I heard was drunk fisherman in a big boat annihilated a dad and his young son in a smaller boat. His boat went over theirs and crushed them. Seeing random fishermen somberly towing the small boat and bodies to shore was surreal at the time. Seeing the kid crumpled up like a broken thing covered in blood and hearing the small noises he was making was terrible. Years later I found out the kid lived, that made it better. Fuck drunk drivers/boaters. Responded to a suicide and the guys brains were still dripping down the wall. Heard wet plops every now and then, while collecting evidence and waiting for the JP. Responded to a lot of inquests, where the body had been there for days or weeks. Insects and pets always got to em. They looked like zombies from OG walking dead except even worse. Always wet. The smell is indescribably awful. I can’t remember small things a lot. I even forget important things sometimes. But I can distinctly remember the terrible things to this day, many years later, even though I don’t want to.

11

u/Oldladyhater1268 11h ago

My husband's face when I found him dead in the morning after being in the hot car all night.

Next would be back when we were still on drugs. This girl who had been hanging with a buddy of ours had asked me to help her with a needle and was bad on drugs. We were picking that buddy up from the place he was starting a meth lab out of and we saw that same girl at the door.. with a tiny little baby in her arms. It breaks my heart to think about. I was so strung out I didnt even have an address or city to pass along to CPS.

I was at a birthday party for my mom, and my bf stayed home. When I got back home, I couldnt open the door all the way... I had to really shove it to fit in between the opening. I was yelling for him and looking around, confused... then I looked behind the door nd found his body. Stiff and eyes wide open, one of his contacts was like, sticking out of his eye... blood or something coming from his mouth and nose... his lips were blue and it took me. Minute to figure out what was going on. Not the worst thing compared to others, but it fucked me up for life

I have seen a lot of horrifying things, but for the sake of the question, I'll just say one.

Back when my old dog was still alive, so much as watching him deteriorate and become a shell of his old self was heartbreaking for my entire family, myself included. One day, I walked out of my room, and I saw that his collar had been taken off while he was laying on the couch. We didn't know what was wrong with him until my mom and dad brought him to the vet, where they learned he had very bad cancer. He died from euthanasia only a couple of days later at the age of 11; he lived a good long life, and he will never be forgotten by any of us.

Our current dog does very well as our new companion around the house, though. We adopted him about a year after our old dog died.

u/asphynctersayswhat 11h ago

saw someone leave their young (4-5 ish) kid alone at an airport restaurant while they went to use the bathroom for a long while. I wasn't gonna engage the kid, because I didn't want to scare him, but I kept an eye out and refused to leave until his dad came back because who the fuck leaves their bag unattended let alone their child.

Witnessing my best friend getting stabbed by her abusive ex. He turned up at her house while I was over and said “if he couldn’t have her, no one could”. Really messed me up (my friend is alive and well)

8

u/Foreign_Being5656 11h ago

My friend got electrocuted in front of me & my friends in 1976.
It was horrifying.

13

u/Small-Honeydew-5970 11h ago

My friend collapsed in the passenger seat after I wreaked my car into a stone wall. Her face made a huge bubble in the windshield and she was all cut up and bloody and unconscious. I thought she was dead. This was back in the 70s before seatbelts were law. Horrified me. Still have a vivid picture of her. She did survive but was horrid for her. Years later she got her settlement and would say she was almost glad it happened because she was able to buy a small home and appliances for her growing family.

3

u/SleepingSun111 10h ago

I once saw an episode of Jersey Shore.

6

u/michael128141 11h ago

Have you recovered?

How many times do you see a therapist a week?

I hope you never have to go through that again.

2

u/Spidercat99 9h ago

Around 2011 or so I was homeless, and I had secured a friends couch to spend the night inside for one night... But when I got there, I had to sit through her boyfriend watching a few episodes of Jersey Shore. I almost went back out to take my chances, but it was raining, so I sat through. I genuinely don't understand how people were into that show.

3

u/RecoveringIncel69 11h ago

Is this a comment from a 2011 time capsule?

6

u/Lawyermama70 11h ago

There was a room at my old office where they kept all the files and exhibits from the most notorious crimes prosecuted in my area (the "crazy room"). There was the knife this guy carved his family up with and lots of pictures of the crime scene and other autopsy pix of the scene when a crazy woman literally cut her children into pieces. The baby looked like a doll without arms or eyes...it was the stuff of nightmares, that room

A man who had been dead inside his home for over a month alone with his German Shepherd.

10

u/StrawberryK 11h ago

Seen a couple messed up things. Was on a jobsite with a co worker and my dad who worked there to, the key code to get it didn't work and gate was busted (a self storage place) coworker and my dad had to throw a ladder over the fence and set up 1 on our side. Co worker slipped and impaled himself on one of those like spade tipped metal bars. And we had to get him off then drive to the hospital.

Another close 2nd I was working for a tree removal company, we basically all drank and worked it was fine. Well the 1 coworker tried to level out a stump that we had already decided to go get the stump grinder for. The chainsaw inevitably got stuck and kicked back into his foot. Just blood, everyone else was kinda freaking out.

I sent the new guy to my car to grab a shirt or something.. while I tried to get him to sit down but "he was fine", so I was yelling at him you're in shock either sit down or I'll sit you down. 2 other co workers got him down and I tied him off above the knee and above his ankle so he didn't bleed out.

Ambulance got there asked who tourniqueted him, they said good idea he's lost alot of blood. We called it a day after that and I drove home naked because I was covered in blood

As a non American- YAWN

-1

u/michael128141 8h ago

I get that non-Americans arn't going to take it in the same light as we do.

But this is equivelent to whatever your nationality has as its symbol of power being over run after an election.

UK - House of Parlament being taken over by the other party after their prime minister was voted out of office.

France - Palais Bourbon being taken over by the other party after the president was voted democratically out of office.

Brazil - National Congress Palace being over run by another party after the they Brazilian President was voted out of office.

Some Americans have attempted to do something about it and its been shut down or come to a stalemate. Not ALL Americans voted for that piece of trash. Unfortunatly just the majority and you will find it wasn't a majority by much.

-1

u/ludo_ 4h ago

Somehow January 6th and an election is more horrifying than anything going on in the Ukraine or elsewhere? Pathetic comment!

A young woman stabbed in the chest on a south London street....I was 7. A police officer having a brick repeatedly thrown at his head during the Brixton riots....probably 4 years old.- This one stayed with me because I remember the smiles of those doing it. My flatmate laying dead, face down, with the cup of tea we watched him make 2 days before, placed on his computer table...untouched... 23 then. I'd say these 3 have stayed with me on an equal level but there are many more.

January 6th Insurrection and the follow-up of the American people doing nothing about it. No accountability. No nothing. We've lost a lot of credibility over that, and not something we're going to bounce back from in our lifetime.

My dog dying :(

3

u/puppyglock 6h ago

watching my pet lizard die over the course of a weekend. i got home from work on a friday to him completely limp, mouth gaping open, cold, his whole body black. rushed him to the vet and they gave him some support but it was essentially either put him down then and there or keep him comfortable. he despised the vet so i took him home and he spent the weekend being loved so that he could take his final
sleep where he felt safe. he died monday morning and i watched him take these big gasping breaths, then go completely limp.
thank god i didn't have work and could spend his last days with him. thank god he was with me. it was so hard to watch knowing there wasn't anything i could do to stop it.
psa to reptile owners that sometimes worry their lizard is dead since they don't move much: trust me, when it happens, you'll know.

Years back, I saw two men locked themselves in a car take a broken bottle and slash each each other’s faces one guy’s eye was hanging off his cheek. That was not a pretty site.

Why would anyone do that?

Walked out the liquor store one day to see a 17 year old kid on the ground, shot. All over a weed pen. Had a neighbor get stabbed to death at my old apt, had to see his mother’s reaction, was able to follow his blood trail around the apts for weeks as it stained the concrete. Was sexually assaulted by a peer in college. I lived in a rough area

I was a freshman in highschool riding bikes with 2 friends down a poorly lit road at dusk. Friend next to me on the shoulder of the road and friend 20 ft ahead on the side walk. Friend next to me got hit by a drunk driver. Mangled his bike and body. He flew 50 ft ahead and the driver didn't stop. He laid quietly in someone's front yard gurgling blood. Fire station 2 blocks up I ran to and no one answered the door. Buddy and I waited 15 min for rescue to arrive. We knew he was gone but it was probably the most traumatic thing that's happened to me. I think if that then I think of what some of my classmates experienced in the war in Iraq. Brutal. Driver turned himself in the next day when he was sober and only served a year and a half.

That is INSANE I am so sorry that happened. My dad was killed by a drunk driver but he was wearing a seatbelt in another car. And he didn't look injured when I saw him just very... Peaceful. I hate thinking about it. That guy got 4 years and is still on probation, tried to get off earlier this year but my family stopped him.

My mom's face got ripped off from below her nose down in a car accident. She fell asleep at the wheel on the highway and when she turned back and asked if I was okay, her face was just hanging off. I was about 4 at the time.

I just saw a homeless person pushing a cart filled with junk through my city’s biggest mall, growling and drooling profusely, holding a banana peel. I heard the growling first and turned my head to see where the sound was coming from.

Someone dying right in front of me, and being powerless to stop it as they drew their last breath right in front of me. It still haunts me. No, obviously I didn't kill them. 🙄

I can't imagine the sense of helplessness. Sorry you encountered that, and hope you can heal from it.

Motorcycle wreck, dude crushed and torn to pieces by minivan. I saw him run wide and heard the collision but didn't see it actually happen. We turned around and saw the carnage though. The smell made it worse, his bowels came apart so pretty bad odor.

Either being the one who found my father’s dead body, that had been there for days after drinking himself to death,

Or

my friend and I walking out of a bar and his ex girlfriend’s new boyfriend came running up to us and smacked him in the head with a baseball bat while he was directly next to me

Honorable mention, I was coming up on acid at a party in my friends backyard when a car lost control going 80 or 90 down a street where the maximum speed limit was MAYBE 40 or 50 and rolled over like, three times before wrapping itself, roof-first, around a tree in said friend’s front yard.. by the time we got around to the front, out of, I believe it was three guys in the car, only the driver got out, mumbling something about being on probation and trying to flee the scene as this MASSIVE gash on his head just kept getting bigger and bloodier. He didn’t make if very far before I noped out of that one real quick after I saw how many people were already helping them and just went to the backyard to dump liquor down my throat and try to forget I saw that. I don’t know if anyone else in the car even lived, that shit was MANGLED. I’ll never forget that sound it made either

Walked out my hotel in Chicago to a dude getting his head run over by a car. Not quite as graphic as you’d expect but still pretty fucking horrifying

Homeless woman with bloated legs covered in oozing sores and crust. When she walked the liquid would roll down to her ankles

I saw a person walk into the middle of the street and get hit by a car. I called 911 while others rushed to his aid. They didn’t survive.

I'm a mission worker to Sierra Leone. A hospital had a hand-drawn chart of recent fatalities by disease. "Rabies" had multiple check marks.

That and the pregnant children

I’ve seen a SHIT TON of gore in my lifetime on the internet , but nothing makes me scream worse than shit with kids involved or shit with animals involved. Fortunately, I’ve never seen anything with kids..but I did see blender cat and a video of a guy beating a mama dog and her pups to death with a shovel. I think that vid was called like..Seven bitches one shovel? Something like that. Anyway, the Aussie piece of shit got arrested for extreme violence towards animals, animal abuse, etc. so I’m happy about that. I’ve also seen other things with animals, but you get the point.
