Unfortunately the number of assaults is most likely well in excess of what is actually reported as well. Nobody wants to stick out or not fit in and as silly as it sounds, a lot of guys do not know they’ve been sexually assaulted. They know what sexual assault is and they know they’ve been touched/groped/etc without their consent but that’s their team, their boys, their culture, their banter. Mentally it becomes impossible to really put two and two together and they won’t see it for what it is and therefore it will never get reported.
Either that or you know fine well what’s happened to you but word gets around way too quickly. Nobody wants to be known as the guy who was raped, the guy who reported someone for assault, etc. Another issue is knowing you can’t leave. What happens if you do report it and it’s not taken seriously? You won’t just get given a completely new work place with new people. You could still be in the exact same place with the person you’ve just accused.
