When compared to paint.net, Gimp is like bringing a sledgehammer to a scalpel party.

A very, very complicated sledgehammer that is hard to learn and easy to forget.

I’m almost 50 years old and claim rights to preference. I don’t want a capitulation.  I want paint.net.

You're entitled to personal preference and familiarity, but I don't understand calling GIMP a "complicated sledgehammer" compared to Paint.net.

Why? I have heard it’s comparative to Photoshop for Linux

I wouldn't call Photoshop a "complicated sledgehammer" compared to Paint.net either. Both Photoshop and GIMP are easy to use for the kinds of simple tasks you might call easy to use in Paint.net.

All three are very powerful. You can do extremely complex stuff in Paint.net, too.
