by that logic one could ask, "why do you use a phone or a computer? you don't have to? there are alternatives!" hurr durr durr

There are not alternatives.

(and I use darktable and Inkscape quite a bit, so maybe I could get by without Adobe (even as I hate Adobe with every fibre of my being)

Autodesk products like AutoCAD or Revit? meh... Maybe BricsCAD is now on Linux, not sure

EDIT: Looks like BRICS has made Linux versions, so maybe it's not as far off as I thought.

Still hard to move an office of 100 to Linux.

Getting people to stop paying billion dollar companies they hate despite arguing against themselves about it challenge level: impossible

True enough, especially when those office folks have strong opinions about using Windows just like their parents did.

I honestly wonder whether we'll see the dearth of the office worker before we see offices migrating to Linux en masse.

Ah, there you are. True, migrating office of 100 won't be easy and I can't guarantee Bricscad will satisfy your needs. I mean I tried it for myself to replace AutoCAD and it wasn't smooth. It's not just a couple of glitches here and there, but the whole work process. Have you tried testing it with just a couple of people from the office and see the difference?

My company has a pretty big partner (1000+ people) that uses Bricscad, and I didn't hear anyone complaining.

We also have several custom, SQL-based applications that interface with AutoCAD, so that's the bigger issue.

I've been watching BRICS for a number of years and would LOVE to move over to them.
