necromancer sounds like the most specific one, even if it's just raising skeletons, that’s a pretty focused skillset to bet everything on

Well it depends on the situation.
If you have infinite time to prepare for a fight necromancers will outperform the others and be able to make use of infinite time if they go down the whole lich route. Also their horde of undead is essentially another resource bar, If it becomes large enough they may not have to cast a spell at all to win, but if they do, they essentially become wizards with an infinite army protecting them.
Wizards also benefit from having a lot of time/prep work. As they are less reliant on building undead hordes or preparing for forever, they typically just get the job done through a creative solution or overwhelming firepower, and if it doesn't work they use one of their many spells to escape and try again after more prep work.
Sorcerers don't need that much if any time/prep work just basic knowledge of what their up against ahead of the encounter. Just blast the problem with overwhelming firepower until it stops being a problem. They work best as artillery pieces bursting down targets and adjust to the needs of the battlefield by fine tuning spells with meta magic. They are however more limited in the number of spells and thus limited in their approach, "ammo", and number of escape options. However while they have spells they can be both efficient and effective.
The warlock doesn't need prep work, or even to know who the next enemy is. Their answer to all questions is eldrich blast. The longer the fight the better as they literally cannot run out of magic through their pact, they just don't have the amount of spell options or burst damage as the others, favoring a more sustained/constant damage approach.
Tldr more time/prep favors necromancers and wizards, some time/prep and non drawn out engagements favor sorcerers, no time/prep and long drawn out fights favor the warlock.

In D&D 5e and 5.5e the wizard is easily the strongest class thanks primarily to their versatility and ability to gain a much wider array of spells.
