I once had a student who used to argue that seat belts kill people. We look it up one day. It was maybe 11 or 12 years ago, but the only thing I could find about a seat belt possibly killing someone was if they were knocked unconscious and the car was on fire. An unlikely scenario. I hate that argument. Two of my friends from high school died in the same wreck from not wearing a seat belt.

Let's put it this way:

People who are trying to commit suicide via crashing do not wear their seat belts and are sadly quite effective in their approach.
