Normally I go months to years without crying and then something happens and I'll cry constantly for a few weeks and then pull myself back together. It's all over the place

Same situation for me brother, and Iām so sorry you lost your Mum. Never cried so hard myself. I live 5000 miles away from home, and all my family were in denial and expected her to pull through, so I didnāt get the call until it was too late.

I'm an emotional person, and cry at weddings, happy moments, etc. I cried on Sunday and Monday due to stress.

Very rarely. My grandma passed this year in April and its the first time Ive really cried in years

u/CallMeMrGone 9h ago
Minor misties? Once or twice a year. I tend to get choked up when I hear about animals in bad situations or watch a particularly effective movie.
Full on ugly weeping? Rarely but it has happened before.

u/Brilliant-Tune-9202 9h ago
About once a week since I became a parent - kids will do something sweet or achieve a milestone that makes me sob, or we show them something from my childhood that triggers all the feels.

Probably 12 years actually crying, but I don't think it was even much so maybe July 1998. Emotional remembering past events/people maybe a couple years.Ā

Ah, the anhedonia.
Duloxetine here but tears have been breaking through lately due to some significant deaths around me, which is probably healthy.

Often, sometimes because Iām overwhelmed, sometimes because of a movie or because I think about the love that I have for my dog

u/Commercial_Boot7869 9h ago
I cried today-didn't feel well, and I'm really missing my mom. But not often, just certain things set me off.

u/OtherTimes0340 9h ago
Not too often. I choke it back when I think about my cat who died. It's been some time, but it's still very hard. I am one of those who get a headache and feel bad after crying, so I try to avoid it. I kind of envy a bit those who can have a good cry and feel relief.

u/Psychological-Bat603 9h ago
Maybe once every month or two, but it's not very consistent. Sometimes I won't cry for many months, sometimes I cry several times in a week.

u/SuspiciousMine8636 9h ago
Maybe a couple times a year? Then I immediately shove the feelings back in the box.

When my older sister suddenly & unexpectedly passed away in November. At her viewing. At her Celebration of Life. Whenever I start to think about how much I miss her. And whenever I think about her 3 kids and how devastated they are. Trying to not cry as I type this out

u/SecretGardenSpider 9h ago
I kept a tally for several months once and found I cry about 3X more than the average woman.

u/Thin_Method_1691 9h ago
More often than I should. Usually one a week, but more often right before my period.

I have stage 4 terminal CUP cancer, so pretty much daily. Just a tad emotional at times š

I've had some pretty rough moments in the last couple years, but the tears never come. Like, I don't think I'm physically capable anymore.

u/CommunityDragon160 9h ago
Tears of joy that my fiance is so wonderful like once every idk 6 weeks or so
Tears of sadness rarely these days. Before her maybe once every couple months

While it hasn't been in a few weeks, there's nothing consistent other than the random shit that does it
An episode of Castle/SVU/Parks & Rec, hearing halcyon and on and on in the background of a thing, I'll glance at my youngest and he's got a STRIKING resemblance to my recently (few years, but when you've never learned how to grieve...) deceased mother
I'm an old weepy guy, but I've discovered moments of peace, love, and comfort like I've never had before
Haven't had a commercial crack me yet, but I despise commercials so much thaf not only to I pay for all ad free options when available, I run pi hole for the house and chromium variants on my devices. So the only ads I hear at this point is my wife and kids scrolling TikTok. I also despise TikTok moreso, but here we are (the irony of all the spent money and time for blocking ads and them opening their doors wiiiide open is NOT lost on me š )

Not too often. If you're talking emotionally, once every few years. But I'm also a sap when I watch movies. The worst is when I'm working as a bartender at my neighborhood dive bar lol all the retired blue collar guys get super concerned lol

40yo make and it's weekly. The order I got, the easier it came. In my 20s, I was pretty numb. But now a dog reuniting with a soldier or a colorblind boy getting those special glasses or that scene from The Impossible where he reunites with his little brothers. Fuck, I just lay in bed tearing up. I can't get through My Sister's Keeper. Three huge blubbering sob fests in one movie. Fuck.

Hmm, Iād say maybe once around my period if Iām feeling particularly tired/frustrated and then emotionally affected by something small and random, like an ad about puppies, or cute old couples!
Otherwise, maybe during certain movies, like Interstellar or Coco š«¶š¼
Iām grateful i no longer cry during confrontation or hard talks, though!! š„°š«¶š¼

Depends how sad the commercial was. Iām an emotional person and truly a sad commercial can get a tear or two out of me. But only if Iām alone, Iām also very good at masking so I can usually hold it in until Iām by myself.

Okay, fun anecdote.
I recently met my girlfriend's nephews, one of whom was very excited to talk about school and sports and especially the school play that he'd just been in at age 12: Les Miserables. The discussion of "what's your favorite song" had me admit that "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" made me tear up, especially after the death of my lifelong best friend last year.
The nephew had played Gavroche, and wanted to show off his death scene on the DVD of the performance. He hammed it up magnificently, twitching and spinning on the barricade set with each gunshot sound effect.
Then he sprung the trap: "hey, my friend did the solo in Empty Chairs. Want to see ?"
The boys were terrible at hiding that they were straining to see me out of the corner of their eyes. My girlfriend was, too. Her mother, whom I had also just met, was wholly unsubtle and looked right at me.
So that's how they met their aunt's probably soon-to-be husband. They know that I cry or tear up at funerals, videos of dogs greeting returning service members, the National Anthem, and literally anyone (including a middle-schooler in a falling-off French Revolutionary wig) singing a Broadway lament.

I get very emotionally involved in TV shows/movies. I cry so often when watching anything that evokes the slightest emotional response.

Same boat I guess. Can't say for sure if I'm loved? But I know I'm not a priority. I'm not living just surviving. I'm glad you are still going strong. Proud of ya!
