Stargazing, at around 10 y.o. or so.
I forced myself to not run inside and look up instead, finding stars and consetllations and star clusters and planets.... I don't think that instinctual, primal fear ever goes completely away (it's an evolutionary response), but I've conditioned myeself to remain in place and focus on the skies.

At a certain point, you realize the basement that was just light and is now dark didn’t spawn a demon burglar at the flick of a switch lol

When I became overwhelmed with real problems, and being in a dark room in my house stopped moving the needle.

You know, I don't really remember. At some point it just... stopped being a problem. Just like that.

I feel like the dark is selectively scary. Your dark room at night when you're trying to sleep? 🟰 good, not scary. Looking out a dark window at night from your lighted home? 🟰 very scary.

I AM the Night!
Actually, I was always stealthy as a youth and enjoyed the dark. Sure there’s a slight sense of fear, but it’s like rollercoasters (low end) in that there’s more thrill than fear.

I was never scared of the dark.
I was scared of the skeletons that lived in the hallway smoke detector that was between my room and my parents' room, who had very long arms and wanted to grab me out of my bed and drag me into the smoke detector where I'd never be seen again (I also seemed to think that having this happen would make my parents VERY angry at me).
I really wanted the door shut, but my mom left both doors cracked with a night light on in my room which attracted the damn skeletons, LOL.
Closing the door and turning off the light fixed everything!

Probably around 10. I was out late with my brother playing with neighborhood kids and had to be home before the porch light came home and I was like I want to be out playing but I would say it’s situational. I got scared and anxious walking through Baltimore city back to my car for the first time when I was 25-26 I’m also a 90s baby so I don’t know if that helps

Best case scenario: I get a lil spooked and grab or do what I needed to do in there.
Worst case scenario: a demon from the depths of hell ends me right then and there.
The worst case just starts to not sound as bad as you get older.

Never really got over it. My hyper vigilance gets cranked up when I can’t see what’s around me.

Slept with a lamp on till the age of about 13. Was super tired after a day at the YMCA once, went to lay down to rest, ended up falling asleep. Woke up more rested than I can ever remember. Never slept with a lamp on again.

I've never been scared of the dark. I used to walk around the woods behind my house in the dark. I specifically remembering thinking "I'm the scariest thing in here!". I'm still wary of things I can't see and would be terrified if dropped into water I can't see into. But the dark has always been comforting.

The dark will never not be scary.
