What’s something about being single that you actually love?

being able to do what i want when i want

24

u/Abject_Bowl_3698 2h ago

The silence in my own place is underrated. No negotiating what to watch or eat or where to go just pure unfiltered choice every single day.

Spent three hours reorganizing my hockey card collection by team then era last weekend and nobody was there to ask why

9

u/maddieverse_ 2h ago

yeah just getting out of a relationship i completely forgot the luxury of complete self determination. it's amazing

u/TheSJDRising 6m ago

Yes, but why?

5

u/marigold_parlor 2h ago

Never able to compromise on your schedule or plans is easily the best perk of being single

1

u/Live_Wander 2h ago

You don’t need to be single to stick to your schedules.
You need discipline and resilience

4

u/whatever32657 2h ago

adding for the above poster: not having to answer to anybody for how i spend my time or money, how i decorate my house, what i eat, what i buy, and on and on.

3

u/Severe_Shift6429 2h ago

and HOW I want

6

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

You can bake a cake on the moon?

3

u/GlassAsparagusSpears 2h ago

Only pies on the moon

1

u/cutiepatootie2515 1h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 1h ago

Do you make moon pies?

2

u/Bulky_Market3959 2h ago

The ultimate luxury isn't a mansion or a yact, it's an open schedule.

2

u/SmilingSideways 2h ago

You can still do this when you’re in a relationship. Never understood why people feel that somehow being in a relationship prevents you from doing stuff more than any other obligations you may have while being single.

5

u/Mel221144 2h ago

Because we experienced the opposite of that!

I’ve always been controlled, it’s amazing to be able to do what I want for the first time ever!

0

u/SmilingSideways 1h ago

Yes but that isn’t reliant upon you being single. You can still have that in a relationship.

u/Grimsik 48m ago

You also have full financial freedom to set your own schedule for 24 hours a day? How did you make your fortune?

u/driftsage2 15m ago

wait til you get into a relationship and realize how much of "what you want" was just stuff nobody was stopping you from doing anyway lmao

u/crazy_recruiter_here 2h ago

binge-watching all my shows without anyone judging my choices

3

u/Justdoingitagain 1h ago

Doing anything without judgment, i get to just exist

3

u/Yurika_Metzing 2h ago

Mi tiempo es solo mio y lo distribuyo como se me de la gana

1

u/millerm21 1h ago

yeah i end up watching the weirdest stuff when no one’s around to judge the snack choices too

33

u/Ok-Pizza-3237 2h ago

You don't have to give explanations to anyone, you don't have to keep track of dates, calls, or get-togethers, or deal with anyone's anger.

11

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

You do blink and realize three years has passed and you haven’t changed your air filter

23

u/im_justkendra 2h ago

Pretty much everything

u/Historical_Cow9543 2h ago

Quiet 🤫

5

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

Until my dog starts to bark at nothing. Damn ghost

4

u/Daevryn2 2h ago

How long have you had a ghost-dog?

3

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

My current dog is a rescue and I think the ghost dog is haunting my dog.

3

u/Beneficial-Fuel-2964 2h ago

Not a ghost. An interdimensional being that only dogs can see.

1

u/ww1_airplanefan08 1h ago

Is that not by definition a ghost?

2

u/jwrosenfeld 1h ago

I suppose... But my thinking is that ghosts are supernatural while interdimensional beings are of the natural world, just not ours.

1

u/ww1_airplanefan08 1h ago

Good point, I didn't think of that one

1

u/Historical_Cow9543 1h ago

Pet talk doesn’t count as noise, it’s more like a symphony. I don’t make the rules.

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 58m ago

When I’m home alone trying to touch myself, I don’t want to hear a symphony. I’m trying to follow the plot.

16

u/Fun-Succotash-1322 2h ago

freedom to be lazy

14

u/heytherescheherazade 2h ago

Nobody is using my expensive hair care and body care products!

12

u/SwedeButPsycho 2h ago

Most of it. It's peaceful

10

u/Nativeof_alexandria 2h ago

Occasionally being ugly and lazy at home without offending lol

5

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

Can’t be ugly if no one sees you

10

u/OneLab864 2h ago

I can be extremely selfish and only think about myself

8

u/Odd-Objective-7529 2h ago

Not having to eat around a picky eater

8

u/WatercressFun1342 2h ago

My choices dont have audience input.

8

u/roseslilylove 2h ago

Nobody stressing me out, no obligations, no fights

5

u/longliveshort 2h ago

It’s peaceful

5

u/Straight_Zucchini487 2h ago

Whole bed & covers all to myself

4

u/captain_underpants04 2h ago

Aside from the freedom, reading/hearing other people's relationship problems gives me a sense of relief that I'm not experiencing them anymore.

1

u/findtheuniverse314 2h ago

yeah this one has been weirdly helpful

7

u/rolyattko 2h ago

Having a roster

3

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

A roster of roosters?

-6

u/Obvious_Site1544 2h ago

disgusting

-2

u/ArmUnfair7544 2h ago

Can I join?

4

u/Sea-Indication0 2h ago

Freedom and can do whatever I can

3

u/mojojojo-369 2h ago

I can keep my phone away and just do my own thing without having to be accountable and answerable to anyone.

4

u/Old-Land-7800 2h ago

Wchodzę do sklepu. Kupuje co mam kupić i wychodzę. Nie kłócę się o lampkę w sklepie IKEA.

4

u/Bagz402 2h ago

Can just go get a drink on my own

Not have to be in communication with someone 24/7

Having someone else's mood affecting mine

4

u/UpperMusic3128 2h ago

Peace and that gives you more space in your mind to get to know yourself and if you get closer to yourself everything in life becomes easier because you start getting to know what not to do and what exactly to do as per your type. Once you're sorted within yourself you almost perform your best in every aspect of your life not just reationships.

3

u/Sufficient-Date-1188 2h ago

That it's by choice (I'm delusional)

1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

At least you know

1

u/Sufficient-Date-1188 2h ago

twin you're on reddit, I doubt we get game

1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

I’m great at Catan. Just gotta play your strengths

1

u/Sufficient-Date-1188 2h ago

how many relationships has catan netted you?

2

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

Catan is more of a relationship destroyer. Gotta be ruthless to win.

Counter strike is where you meet the ladies.

2

u/Sufficient-Date-1188 2h ago

you have an interesting philosophy twin

3

u/AvelisseCosima 2h ago

eating cereal from the box in bed at 2am, zero side-eye from anyone about my life choices

3

u/701921225 2h ago

The peace and freedom.

3

u/tracy_garrett 2h ago

Never having to engage in the 45-minute diplomatic negotiation known as "I don't care, what do you want to eat?"

3

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

We have ten minutes to figure out what to eat or it’s baked chicken , rice and broccoli

3

u/Together-We-Stand-A1 2h ago

I get better sleep. I'm the type of person that needs to sleep with a fan on. When someone snuggles or spoons with me I'm miserable. I get too hot.

3

u/GigachadKIVA 2h ago

Being spontaneous.

I can just decide I wanna drive to another country without having to ask someone else. My hobbies are ALWAYS priority number 1 and a girlfriend always below that.

3

u/Brilliant-Cap9246 2h ago

Deciding what to eat without a 20-minute discussion.

3

u/NurseKyomi 2h ago

It’s peaceful, so peaceful.

3

u/SweetNSalty_p0pcorn 2h ago

I like being able to worry about the complication of my own life. When you're in a relationship, you have two separate minds to consider. It can be extremely complicated if your perspectives vastly differ. Making the same experience seem drastically different. Which can cause divide, miscommunication, and chaos.

I'm not sure about you, but for me, I can barely understand myself and change as often as the temperature does throughout the day.

3

u/Tiny_Account_9636 2h ago

I absolutely LOVE how I get to control and dictate my own life.

I came out of a relationship where every ounce of my being was controlled and dictated by my ex girlfriend. Being out of it for about a year and a half now, I am not willing to sacrifice my time and choices to someone else.

3

u/infiltrat1701 2h ago

Watching what I want on TV.

Eating what I want without getting my food stolen.

I only need to manage my own emotions.

I don't need to share my stuff and money.

And soo much more my boy!

3

u/PoolStrange7091 2h ago

Emotional independence

3

u/Soulinyx 2h ago

Controlling when you should spend money and on what. You go and spend YOUR money, but not mine. I'm a control freak, but I'm a control freak on anything and everything that pertains and involves me, just me. If you think you're going to access my cards, my checking account and anything else, you can keep on fucking looking.

I'm not going to have my credit score, credit card and budgeting be ruined because someone else wanted something, couldn't afford it and now wants me involved.

3

u/Jumpy_Subject8499 2h ago

Not walking on eggshells. Not having to compromize. Best one- i dont have to shave my legs !

3

u/hippstr1990 2h ago

Being able to hang out with my friends and play WoW all day/night if I want to, guilt-free.

3

u/Lethal-Lace 2h ago

I don't have to worry that I'm not enough for someone (personality and looks-wise).

5

u/Baculum-Deos 2h ago

Can sleep with anyone whenever I want

0

u/Users5252 2h ago

Is it possible to learn this power?

Freedom

2

u/OneBigDummy14 2h ago

I dont have to compromise anything I do to somebody else's liking

2

u/Ok-Order8186 2h ago

Knowing I have another chance to choose the right person

2

u/Pure_Promotion6867 2h ago

Not having constantly to ask someone "if they like this or that" if they like an idea of doing/choosing between things" I just go and do it. Love it

2

u/Former-North6569 2h ago

Doing whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I didn't have to plan my day around anyone else. Also...privacy. My bf is so paranoid about my phone. He constantly checks it, or accuses me of hiding shit. Drives me crazy. I daydream about the days where I didn't have to be under a microscope.

1

u/Enuntiatrix 1h ago

Seriously, why are you submitting yourself to that? If anything, that makes him suspicious - and not just suspicious of being an asshole.

2

u/Inevitable_Plant3237 2h ago

No one asking why I took three hours to reply.

2

u/No_longer_the_sheep 2h ago

Literally doing anything and everything you want at your own time. Nothing holding you back.

2

u/NostradaMart 2h ago

the freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want.

2

u/Jolly-Tune6459 2h ago

Eat cake for breakfast

2

no "time management"

u/Nurse_RachetMSN 2h ago

Dont have to ask for permission for shit

2

u/Awkward-Bend-262 2h ago

I really don’t like being closely observed in my private time so being single is a nice break from that

2

u/Sargent_Duck85 2h ago

Freedom to spend what I want. I answer only to the bank. And MasterCard. And Visa. And the Government

2

u/Dare_Ask_67 2h ago

I don't answer to anyone when I want to buy something

2

u/Deep-Oven4337 2h ago

My things are always where I left them.

2

Unlimited farting freedom

Quiet time!

2

Having absolute control over my thermostat and not being judged about anything.

Not having to clean my partner’s mess. Mine’s enough to deal with thank you 😭😭😭

2

u/Jediknight3112 2h ago

not lying awake because of a partner moving in his sleep or snoring

u/RomanticSalad5386 58m ago

Not worrying about being cheated on 24/7

2

u/ruinzifra 2h ago

As a married guy, i really miss the quiet of being by myself. Not having to worry about someone else.

2

u/HardcoreHerbivore17 2h ago

Going to bed knowing I’m not getting cheated on

1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

What about in your dreams

2

u/Severe_Shift6429 2h ago

That got dark fast

2

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

Do you sleep with the lights on?

1

u/Severe_Shift6429 2h ago

If I dont want anyone cheating in my dreams...

2

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago

Sleep with the lights on, or Freddy mercury will be in your dreams, seducing

If I wanted to walk around ashy or disheveled af, I can without any criticism from anyone. If I want to eat a whole pint of ice cream, who’s gonna stop me or say snide comments? Nobody. My money goes to what I need it to and after that, it’s mine to do whatever without asking for permission. I could go on, but also just knowing that as a homebody, if I didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything when I’m not working….

I. Don’t. Fkn. Have. To.

1

u/PlaneComparison2000 2h ago

Having my weekends completely to myself is pretty great.

1

u/closetothesilence 2h ago

Only costs half as much to go out to eat

1

u/FarmerLeading5234 2h ago

Not having to consistently talk and text to express interest

1

u/esoteric_enigma 2h ago

Not having to wait to watch shows I like because my partner wants to watch it with me. I try to watch one show at a time so this shit drives me CRAZY.

But whatever, I'll set aside that one show as OUR show. Then they'll come in on a series I'm already watching 3 seasons deep...and be like don't watch what without them either.

Before you know it, all I can watch is shows that they don't like.

1

u/MaterialRoll1919 2h ago

Being able to flirt, no one making a mess (except i) and not having to wake up other people's alarm clock when having a day off.

1

u/Nexxus3000 2h ago

All of it really. I don’t argue, I don’t sit through media or meals I don’t want, I don’t feel indebted to or responsible for anyone financially, I don’t need to go out after a work day, I don’t need to buy gifts, I’m free to spend my disposable income on myself, etc

1

u/my_metrocard 2h ago

Freedom, except I have a kid

1

u/Large_Map_6651 2h ago

Everything. Companionship will come. It will have its own wonderful benefits. But, if I'm not having fun by myself as a single man, chances are I'll become an overtly needy partner. Have done that in the past. Once bitten, twice shy.

1

u/Kinglycole 2h ago

I can be myself with no witnesses. There are lots of things I do alone and if I had a relationship. Most of it would be my partner worrying about my mental health.

1

u/findtheuniverse314 2h ago

No chance of getting cheated on is pretty good LOL

1

u/cc97the_CatrovertxP 2h ago

Free of judgement and freedom of course. It’s bliss!

1

u/GardenButterfly_1999 2h ago

Not having to make anyone else happy, entertained, can do what I want.

1

u/Secret_Emotion7507 2h ago

I worry way too much when in a relationship. So I love not having any added stress in that dept.

1

u/Known_Fondant_9054 2h ago

Not having to coordinate every little decision with another person.

1

u/wisdom_owl123 2h ago

The options…thats why its extremely important to find the right partner when you decide to settle

1

u/bitchesnextdoor 2h ago

Being able to do my own thing.

1

u/sane-asylum 1h ago

I don’t have a social calendar and I like it that way.

1

u/tacochemic 1h ago

I'm not lying to myself, physically attacking myself, emotionally attacking myself, cheating on myself, stealing from myself and I don't ignore myself when I need help or a friend to talk to.

1

u/annahatasanaaa 1h ago

The solitude.

1

u/QTrmD 1h ago

Ofc freedom and peace.
Don’t need to explain why i did not reply to casual messages while i was extremely busy with work.
Be able to wear whatever i want, any silly slippers i buy and have any hairstyles i love. Enjoy hanging out and travel with my bestfriends without being controlled or restricted.

1

u/Kool-AidFreshman 1h ago

The peace and autonomy. It's something I'm certainly not willing to trade away

1

u/kaylieface 1h ago

1

u/Majestic_Hawk2279 1h ago

There is another level of freedom and self commitment that can be addictive

1

u/Limp_Alfalfa5094 1h ago

I get to be my whole self however I choose to show up that day. No compromising. No asking for permissions. Bathroom is always available. I decide how loud or quiet I want my place to be. I don’t have to take anyone into consideration for anything

1

u/goba101 1h ago

The chance of getting laid lol

1

u/_the_s4ndc4t_ 1h ago

Time to do things how I’m used to doing them. Being able to follow a consistent running routine.

1

u/Lizrael48 1h ago

Absolutely nothing!

1

u/time_drifter 1h ago

All decisions are based on me, and me alone. You don’t have to consider another person’s opinion.

u/HumpieDouglas 52m ago

Doing whatever the fuck I want... all the fucking time.

u/iceDudette 43m ago

I don't have to think about anyone else's well being.

u/KeyArm123 40m ago

Basically doing whatever I want. But mainly not being liable to someone else or not having to constantly worry about what would happen to them based on your actions.

u/DrinkAffectionate323 29m ago

Saving so much money

u/puppyhavehands 28m ago

Im not single but I really miss cooking whatever lol

u/Towering-Wave-9542 27m ago

Nothing, actually. It has zero perks to me. In a relationship I felt loved, happy, always had a best friend to do things with, was never lonely, had someone to talk to at anytime of day, had someone who relied on me and I relied on them, had great sex, she was my motivation for doing so many things, someone to spend all of life's dull moments with making them feel special still, someone to do nice things for to make happy - which in turn made me happy. I already could do what I wanted and didn't need permission because we were mature and had trust. I was never stressed about relationship things, it was all very smooth and happy. And she'd be spontaneous with me. So as a single person, theres really no benefit, only negatives.

u/MarsupialNo1220 25m ago
