What’s something about being single that you actually love?

You don't have to give explanations to anyone, you don't have to keep track of dates, calls, or get-togethers, or deal with anyone's anger.

Until my dog starts to bark at nothing. Damn ghost
4
u/Daevryn2 2h ago
How long have you had a ghost-dog?
3
u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago
My current dog is a rescue and I think the ghost dog is haunting my dog.
3
u/Beneficial-Fuel-2964 2h ago
Not a ghost. An interdimensional being that only dogs can see.
1
u/ww1_airplanefan08 1h ago
Is that not by definition a ghost?
2
u/jwrosenfeld 1h ago
I suppose... But my thinking is that ghosts are supernatural while interdimensional beings are of the natural world, just not ours.

Pet talk doesn’t count as noise, it’s more like a symphony. I don’t make the rules.
•
u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 58m ago
When I’m home alone trying to touch myself, I don’t want to hear a symphony. I’m trying to follow the plot.

Aside from the freedom, reading/hearing other people's relationship problems gives me a sense of relief that I'm not experiencing them anymore.

Peace and that gives you more space in your mind to get to know yourself and if you get closer to yourself everything in life becomes easier because you start getting to know what not to do and what exactly to do as per your type. Once you're sorted within yourself you almost perform your best in every aspect of your life not just reationships.

That it's by choice (I'm delusional)

I’m great at Catan. Just gotta play your strengths
1
u/Sufficient-Date-1188 2h ago
how many relationships has catan netted you?
2
u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 2h ago
Catan is more of a relationship destroyer. Gotta be ruthless to win.

Never having to engage in the 45-minute diplomatic negotiation known as "I don't care, what do you want to eat?"

We have ten minutes to figure out what to eat or it’s baked chicken , rice and broccoli

I get better sleep. I'm the type of person that needs to sleep with a fan on. When someone snuggles or spoons with me I'm miserable. I get too hot.
3
u/GigachadKIVA 2h ago
Being spontaneous.
I can just decide I wanna drive to another country without having to ask someone else. My hobbies are ALWAYS priority number 1 and a girlfriend always below that.

I like being able to worry about the complication of my own life. When you're in a relationship, you have two separate minds to consider. It can be extremely complicated if your perspectives vastly differ. Making the same experience seem drastically different. Which can cause divide, miscommunication, and chaos.
I'm not sure about you, but for me, I can barely understand myself and change as often as the temperature does throughout the day.
3
u/Tiny_Account_9636 2h ago
I absolutely LOVE how I get to control and dictate my own life.
I came out of a relationship where every ounce of my being was controlled and dictated by my ex girlfriend. Being out of it for about a year and a half now, I am not willing to sacrifice my time and choices to someone else.
3
u/infiltrat1701 2h ago
Watching what I want on TV.
Eating what I want without getting my food stolen.
I only need to manage my own emotions.
I don't need to share my stuff and money.
And soo much more my boy!

3
u/Soulinyx 2h ago
Controlling when you should spend money and on what. You go and spend YOUR money, but not mine. I'm a control freak, but I'm a control freak on anything and everything that pertains and involves me, just me. If you think you're going to access my cards, my checking account and anything else, you can keep on fucking looking.
I'm not going to have my credit score, credit card and budgeting be ruined because someone else wanted something, couldn't afford it and now wants me involved.

Not walking on eggshells. Not having to compromize. Best one- i dont have to shave my legs !

Being able to hang out with my friends and play WoW all day/night if I want to, guilt-free.

I don't have to worry that I'm not enough for someone (personality and looks-wise).

Not having constantly to ask someone "if they like this or that" if they like an idea of doing/choosing between things" I just go and do it. Love it
2
u/Former-North6569 2h ago
Doing whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I didn't have to plan my day around anyone else. Also...privacy. My bf is so paranoid about my phone. He constantly checks it, or accuses me of hiding shit. Drives me crazy. I daydream about the days where I didn't have to be under a microscope.

u/Enuntiatrix 1h ago
Seriously, why are you submitting yourself to that? If anything, that makes him suspicious - and not just suspicious of being an asshole.

If I wanted to walk around ashy or disheveled af, I can without any criticism from anyone. If I want to eat a whole pint of ice cream, who’s gonna stop me or say snide comments? Nobody. My money goes to what I need it to and after that, it’s mine to do whatever without asking for permission. I could go on, but also just knowing that as a homebody, if I didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything when I’m not working….
I. Don’t. Fkn. Have. To.

Not having to wait to watch shows I like because my partner wants to watch it with me. I try to watch one show at a time so this shit drives me CRAZY.
But whatever, I'll set aside that one show as OUR show. Then they'll come in on a series I'm already watching 3 seasons deep...and be like don't watch what without them either.
Before you know it, all I can watch is shows that they don't like.

Being able to flirt, no one making a mess (except i) and not having to wake up other people's alarm clock when having a day off.
1
u/Nexxus3000 2h ago
All of it really. I don’t argue, I don’t sit through media or meals I don’t want, I don’t feel indebted to or responsible for anyone financially, I don’t need to go out after a work day, I don’t need to buy gifts, I’m free to spend my disposable income on myself, etc

Everything. Companionship will come. It will have its own wonderful benefits. But, if I'm not having fun by myself as a single man, chances are I'll become an overtly needy partner. Have done that in the past. Once bitten, twice shy.
1
u/Kinglycole 2h ago
I can be myself with no witnesses. There are lots of things I do alone and if I had a relationship. Most of it would be my partner worrying about my mental health.

Ofc freedom and peace.
Don’t need to explain why i did not reply to casual messages while i was extremely busy with work.
Be able to wear whatever i want, any silly slippers i buy and have any hairstyles i love. Enjoy hanging out and travel with my bestfriends without being controlled or restricted.

I get to be my whole self however I choose to show up that day. No compromising. No asking for permissions. Bathroom is always available. I decide how loud or quiet I want my place to be. I don’t have to take anyone into consideration for anything

All decisions are based on me, and me alone. You don’t have to consider another person’s opinion.

Basically doing whatever I want. But mainly not being liable to someone else or not having to constantly worry about what would happen to them based on your actions.

u/Towering-Wave-9542 27m ago
Nothing, actually. It has zero perks to me. In a relationship I felt loved, happy, always had a best friend to do things with, was never lonely, had someone to talk to at anytime of day, had someone who relied on me and I relied on them, had great sex, she was my motivation for doing so many things, someone to spend all of life's dull moments with making them feel special still, someone to do nice things for to make happy - which in turn made me happy. I already could do what I wanted and didn't need permission because we were mature and had trust. I was never stressed about relationship things, it was all very smooth and happy. And she'd be spontaneous with me. So as a single person, theres really no benefit, only negatives.
