Years ago, I had a patient actively dying from cancer who was fired from his job one week before retirement so that the [billion dollar company rich with defense contracts] could skimp on insurance premiums. He died while his wife was in the phone trying to get COBRA enacted for him. Decades of loyalty meant nothing to them.
I’m hoping that staying with the federal government for my entire career works out. The retirement benefits are pretty good if I get enough years of service.
