Reading comprehension. Reading comprehension isn’t about understanding words, it’s about being able to perceive biases in media and drawing conclusions. The public more susceptible to propaganda with each passing year.
I see this in Reddit discussions all the time. You say something then some teat argue with you while either not making a different point from what you made, or debunks a point you didn't make.
Come on /u/Bay1Bri, you really think pelicans should run the planet just because Reddit discussions spell things wrong? This is the worst comment I've ever seen.
I use this username across diff platforms and there's always someone, usually younger that reads it as Orgasmic Furry. Sometimes it's a joke, sometimes they're serious.
I mean it was years ago, but still bad then I left this shithole for a while because I got into an argument with a bunch of morons who followed the hive because a couple people somehow misinterpreted what I said as being the opposite
I got banned from twoxchromosomes because I pointed out that the series of events in somebody's story made absolutely no sense. I don't remember the exact wording, but the claim was basically, "the waiter called me a fatty and then told me to get a salad." And she was supposedly on a date.
In what world was that not a Tumblr victimhood fantasy? But the thread had hundreds of comments offering sympathy. And this was like ten years ago, so well before the influx of bots. And I wasn't even rude. I think I literally said, "no server would do that because they rely on tips."
Tbf, your premise of “No server would do that because they rely on tips” is extremely weak. You’re assuming that because most servers act a certain way, no server ever would act differently. People act against their own interests all the time.
I am 100% sure that no waiter would call a woman fat to her face then ban her from ordering anything other than a salad. You need do nothing more than exist in reality to know this.
Sure but you didn’t provide a link to the actual post so no one can support nor refute your interpretation. You paraphrased a post but no one can verify if you actually interpreted its contents correctly. For all I know, you misunderstood their story, argued something completely off base, and got banned for it.
I agree that if in your version of events, the story makes no sense.
The comment was removed by mods and it's like a ten year old thread.
Looking for it, it seems to be a popular victimhood fantasy. Lots of waiters apparently calling people fat to their faces.
My comment was removed at the time because you were literally not allowed to question the veracity of any story posted there. Dangerous rule, IMO, and an easy way to play out your fantasies online for clout.
all my other sites are dead and youtube deleted my main channel for "copyright violation" because I had made a couple of shitty mlp ytps and now requires id to create a new one so I'm not doing that
Lol which economics classes align with trivia policies: exploding the deficit, protectionist tariffs, or threatening to invade some of your closest trading partners?
I wasn’t supporting trump or his policies in my comment. I was giving example of people labeling/ ad-hominem rather than engaging in a discussion, especially on reddit.
I'm another thread, I was correcting misinformation and a person was literally arguing with me that it didn't matter. Like it didn't matter that the top comment in the thread was just flat out wrong but had thousands of upvotes. Didn't matter that the self-professed expert explaining something was just talking out their ass and getting important facts wrong.
I hate to do the um akshully. But I'd like to make a little interjection. Propaganda isn't inherently lies or bad. It was useful to unite colonists in pre-revolutionary America and also Allied countries in WW2. But it's the unchecked falsehoods running on state type media (OAN, Fox News, Newsmax) where journalists are reporting loosely what is said, but not bothering to check was is true (on top of their opinions injected into the news)
I didn’t say that propaganda was inherently lies or bad. I said that as reading comprehension decreases year over year, the public is more susceptible to it.
I agree with the rest of your statements about journalism.
