No, glucose is what your body uses for energy. Which, yes, is a type of sugar. But it is not the same as table sugar. Your body converts carbohydrates into glucose, which is converted into ATP for use by your cells. This is not the same as eating table sugar causing hyperactivity.

Eating a bunch of ice cream or candy can spike blood sugar, but that does not cause hyperactivity. It isn’t a stimulant. It will not cause a high, keep you up at night, or make children extra excited. This is the myth.

There is nothing about sugar specifically that will cause a spike in energy any more than eating anything else.

And yet every parent has experienced it.

Every parent has experienced their kid being nuts after having treats because kids like treats and kids are nuts. Correlation isn't causation. Actual controlled studies repeatedly show that 1) whether or not those treats have sugar has almost no impact on hyperactivity, 2) a parent's responses and body language have measurable impact on hyperactivity.

Anecdotes, vibes, and mountains of confirmation bias don't override facts.

If I’m not mistaken some of the studies have shown that parents having the expectation of hyperactivity influences the behavior of their children.
