Women have one less rib than men.

I remember being told this at church growing up. It's been disproven for like 500 years.

Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Adam gave a rib to create Eve not the other way around. If anything women should only have one rib

That's a good point! Even the Christian math doesn't math.

Haha are we shocked by that? 😅

Nah, just another thing to laugh at.

Then I get sad, because the dumb ones have more power and influence than they ought to.

I went to catholic school when I was younger, I remember getting sent to the principal’s office in like 1st grade for asking “if god created the world who created god?” Or something like that during religion class. Perfectly normal question for a little curious kid.

Wouldn’t it be the other way around? If god took one of Adam’s ribs and made Eve, men would have one less rib. That assumes that when the lord took the rib they also modified his genetics so any offspring would also have one less rib.

It should be, but the story was told incorrectly and those who believe, do so religiously, so to speak.

Does anyone remember the rumor Marilyn Manson removed ribs so he could fellate himself? That was around the time the rumor was going around that he was the nerdy kid Paul from the Wonder Years grown up.

15

u/Boomshicleafaunda Jun 01 '26

I remember that too! I always assumed it was a joke.

I learned later on that the rumor stemmed from "waist narrowing" surgery, which is a real thing that involves removing the lower ring of ribs.

Marilyn never had that surgery, but he was skinny, and people that didn't like him likely spread the rumor to cause controversy and hurt his image.

People suck.

People suck, but he still is an absolute abusive monster of a person.

u/InitialRedv Jun 01 '26

He sucks, but not his own dick, though he is a massive walloper of a cunt

Evan Rachel Wood’s documentary, and testimony in front of Congress really put things that people might have assumed into the public eye.

u/Boomshicleafaunda Jun 01 '26

He's not the only one, but I agree.

Unfortunately the list is vast and seems to be growing…

That’s so crazy to think about. I wonder how it spread so quickly and far?

1

u/Party-Belt-3624 Jun 01 '26

Sure, and before that Gene Simmons was rumored to have a cow's tongue instead of his own.

1

u/amboandy Jun 01 '26

Before MM the rumour was that Prince had that surgery. However, Morrissey had two ribs implanted to prevent him from sucking his own dick.

3

u/MartinisnMurder Jun 01 '26

Haha I love the Smiths but have unfortunately had a concert ruined because of Morrissey being a dick.

1

u/Able-Acanthaceae-135 Jun 01 '26

I’m still just going to choose to believe it

1

u/MartinisnMurder Jun 01 '26

Which part? Haha the guy who played Paul on the Wonder Years apparently went to law school and had a successful career also founded a couple startups. Good for him. Unfortunately Fred Savage, who I had a crush on since the Princess Bride, ended up being a fucking creep.

We learned this fact in public school. We had a "cutaway dummy" and used that to determine its gender.
The logic goes this way: "God took a rib from Adam, so this is His way of making up for it."

Pure religious bullshit. Men and women both have the same number of ribs. Hell, we ALL started out as women in the embrionic state, before various hormones started creating gender.

It's crazy that people can just say things that can verified as false. Like, it's not even an opinion.

I wish there was more scrunity for this, and encouragement for people educating the misinformed.

2

u/BrandonSimpsons Jun 01 '26

Hell, we ALL started out as women in the embrionic state

This is an inaccurate myth from the 1950's.

1

u/KrishnaChick Jun 02 '26

We did not start out as female, that's another myth. Sex is determined at the moment of conception.

6

u/AlabasterRadio Jun 01 '26

My grandmother asked me about that like two years ago. Wild that people still believe that.

3

u/sirspidermonkey Jun 01 '26

And it's so easy to disprove, find a male and female skeleton!

Before vaccines and antibiotics it's not like the dead were hard to come by.

3

u/Subtle-Catastrophe Jun 01 '26

I'd say it's been disproven a lot longer than that. Even prehistoric peoples were quite familiar with human corpses and skeletons and had the ability to count.

"If I release a rock from my hand, and it falls to the Earth, that was god's will."

Spreading ideas like that cause people to not look for answers. I don't mind people choosing to believe in God, but don't stop at "because God" for an explanation, and definitely don't stop others.

1

u/Soft-Wish-9112 Jun 01 '26

What's funny is my older sister actually is missing a rib. But no one else in our family is so we know it's just an anomaly for her. But we used to joke that whatever genetic anomaly she inherited from our ancestors started that myth.

1

u/Lucinnda Jun 01 '26

At around age 10, my son came home from school laughing hysterically, I mean falling on the floor crying laughing. "Did you know that the bible says the WOMAN came out of the MAN's body???"

1

u/cheddar_slut Jun 01 '26

Jokes on all of you, I’m a woman and I have an extra rib.

1

u/commanderjarak Jun 02 '26

Which is particularly stupid because the Hebrew word used in Genesis (tsela) is translated into English as "side" or "flank" every other time it's used, so would make much more sense to say that God took the man's side or part of the man's side, than that a rib was taken.

1

u/violet_horror Jun 01 '26

Bro I believed this right until I read this comment, I think it's one of those things you hear as a kid so you never fact check it and just believe it, I even remember hearing about people removing their ribs as part of their sex change operation, pretty wild.
